KR really showed some leadership tonight.  During the second half, each timeout after the team broke the huddle, Katin got the players on the court together for their own huddle, and he was doing all of the talking.  Obviously don't know what was said, but he was clearly the man in charge out on the floor tonight.

MU82

Katin has been excellent for several weeks now.

There is lots of Scoopy crow-eating going on tonight, and Katin should be beneficiary of much of it.

It seems small, but I liked when Katin blocked an after the whistle three pointer at the rim. Liked the attitude. No easy buckets! Not even ones that don't count!

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

After Sam's 3, Kaitin looked right up into sec 200 and screamed "MARQUETTE MOTHER
F&$@CKERS!!!!"
I got goose bumps. What a night.

Yep.  Special

Stepping up just when we need it.  Great senior leadership.

esotericmindguy

Him screaming that is senior leadership? His great play has coincided Marquette's run, but he doesn't strike me as a leader. Have no issue with it, but don't see it.

That play was a perfect example of how he's embraced his role--shot clock was winding down and he got the ball and it looked like he was just going to force something up like he did often early in the season.  Instead, he dishes to an open hauser, nylon.  That's when it felt like something special was happening.

I don't have the posting history to show it, but I was definitely one of those people saying "get off my court" every time he got the ball for like his first ten marquette games. He's had a massive turnaround and I couldn't possibly be happier about it.

Katin and Luke have both led the last two games.  Thanks for stepping up, gents.

Then you are not paying attention.
Hitting big shots, making the extra open pass, telling teammates where to be on def, sets attitude with other teams players, hitting really big shots, getting teammates focused during timeouts, explaining game scenarios before the inbounds, running point,  92% FTs, etc.
You can call it what you like, but that is a leader on the court.

i was/am still worried about his discipline-knowing when and when not to chuck.  is he feeling it? does someone have a better look? is someone else hot at the moment? yes, i understand that good shooters shoot their way out of slumps, but a "leader" will have a good mental checklist review and a sense for appropriate play, all in a milli-second

just hoping that katin is here for all the right reasons-for us, rather than to poke usc in the eye-forget about them-you are a warrior now-go forth my son and conquer :D

Wheres Sand-Knit and duanewade?

GoldenDieners32

He found his groove lately. Next year we are really going to miss this guy..

Stretchdeltsig

Karin, Duane and Rowsey all show leadership and toughness.  And, Sam for a freshman is so calm and collected.  Starting to love this team more and more.

marquette09

The shot he made with 1:50 left was clutch, cutting the lead from three to five, after the turnover. And it was a really tough shot.

Honestly...and this might be a conspiracy theory...I think they are here. I've long thought that both of them (and some others) are second accounts for seemingly more reserved posters. That way they can vent and troll without worrying about having to eventually eat crow. No idea who, just seemed like a possibility.

come on man!  was that necessary? really?  just when i'm thinking you aren't as bad as they tell me...

i'm a fan of katin first, but he does have a little bit of "me" in him(note his post game interview) while trying to be grateful of his "higher power" and that's ok. i fully understand that there were A LOT of emotions flowing and very rightly so.  i have noticed a growth in katin since game 1.  i'm just trying to avoid the big highs and lows on players(and coaches).  people get all geeked out of shape by episodes.  this was one of the greatest moments these guys have felt to date and is a reward for all their hard work and perseverance through some very probable negative talk(scoop?)

I agree. That was the shot after another lazy pass by JJ. Down 5 and he misses would have been a different last minute.

MU82's MF'er comment was a joke, not directed at you.  Katin was dropping lots of MF'ers during the comeback I guess.

What about his post game interview made him think he was about him more than the team?

dw3dw3dw3

We've never really gotten the whole Katin story, hope he has more success where someone will do something in-depth on him. Gottlieb had a tweet that referenced his self-inflicted wounds (https://twitter.com/GottliebShow/status/824252637717692416), with some follow up comments about his "circle" and getting shopped around while still at UNLV.  Lots of references to God in his post-game. Seems like part of the reason he came here was the connection between the Belmont Shore program and Wojo. Just seems like someone who has a good story to tell.

BubbaWilliams

When Katin hit that three, I re-watched it about 3 or 4 times. If you slow it down just enough, you can see him mouth the word, "Kobe!"
"Marquette is so good defensively, they steal your mouth guards."

tower912

It took him time to acclimate and for the coaches to acclimate to him.   And he was injured.    Now he was healthy and everybody is used to each other.   The last two games, he has led.   Apparently, he has it in him.    Does this mean he will never force up another dumb 3?   No.   He is evolving into a leader AND a conscience-free gunner.    Ok.

That was bigger than the 3 in my opinion.  That was a BIGTIME make, and was much needed after the TO to go back down 5.

Also, after he hit the tying 3, he ran into the student section and was hugging people.  Not mean mugging at half court or self aggrandizing.  He was loving the atmosphere and the moment.  Amazed at his turnaround after the first few months.  I'm far more worried about Rowsey and JJJ taking stupid shots than Katin at this point.
