What is the new ceiling for this team?    I think 21-9, 12-6 is now on the table.   Yes, this is the optimism of beating Creighton and Villanova back to back talking.   But still, time to recalculate.

Amazing last few games, for different reasons.

Amazing that we could achieve the last two, specifically, with a coach who plays mind games, who can't make adjustments, who demotivates his team, etc. etc. etc.

Suck it.

Tower - sorry to go off tangent. Needed to vent.

I agree with your new ceiling assessment though. But i have a tough time still disbelieving that we'll lose one we should win against a lower team.

That sounds right.  12-6 is the new ceiling.  I think 11-7 now sounds probable.  10-8 the next most probable.

SoCalEagle

I had them at 13-5 before Beast play started.

I know ... overly optimistic ... but just maybe.

There have been a whole lot of people saying a whole lot of negative stuff who are going to be awfully quiet going forward.   Stretching now for the leap onto the bandwagon.

For me.. very pleased.. but.. just make the tourney. We'll analyze our opponent(s) when known.
The portal is NOT closed.

The only road game left against a likely tourney team is Xavier. 11 or 12 wins is definitely possible.

I'll admit, I was quite down on this team after the Butler game. It was frustrating seeing the team be so close at breaking through, only to blow it. Big-time credit to Wojo & co for finding the way to get it done.

RideMyBuycks

Gosh, 21-9 puts us in the "this team developed into a monster throughout the year after a few early losses" 3-6 seed consideration. Crazy to think about.

PGsHeroes32

Still think we slip up at SJU or DePaul(hope not Saturday vs Prov)

But I'm just glad we are 5 wins away from being a 100% lock for tourney.

Let's get em

I wanna go back to preseason predictions and see how many people had this  ;D

Looking ahead at the possibilities brings out the pessimist in me, especially after the last few seasons. So, tonight I only wallow in victory!!

lurch91

After tonight, none of the remaining games scare me.  Maybe X in Cinncy, but we match up fairly well.  Have a good shot to run the table if the boys keep their heads on straight and play like they did tonight.

Babybluejeans

This definitely changes the calculation and not only by the numbers. This team didn't rely on luck to beat Creighton and Villanova. MU outplayed and *outcoached* them both.

Stop that ridiculous talk right now.  Actually.  Really do stop it.  If #1, 2, & 4 can lose in one night, MU will lose at least a couple more.

marquette09

Will we be favored in all of the remaining regular season games with the exception of at X and maybe butler at home?

This, many of us thought to start the season that we'd lose a few we shouldn't and win a couple that we shouldn't.  That will continue.  The good thing, we are now in great position to finish 10-8 and punch our ticket.

You're telling me with our remaining schedule that everyone that thinks we'll end up 10 - 8 in conference is being realistic?  There's a lot of people expecting us to go .500 the rest of the season?  Really?  Marquette is 5 - 3 as of tonight in the Big East, we may lose a couple of games (say @ X, and a couple of dumb ones - @ Providence and home v. Butler), but FIVE more?

Again, the rest of the schedule isn't scary.  There isn't a "gaunlet".  Doesn't mean we won't lose, but I don't see why people are saying 10 - 8 is our ceiling.

TheGym

The thing that is different about this win is that they won with defense.  If they can be effective on both ends of the floor then they will be a team no one wants to play.

I actually was encouraged after the Butler game. We played great for an extended stretch against an outstanding team on their home court. It's such a cliche ... but it really is a process. Katin said after tonight's game that the Butler loss helped motivate the team. Maybe this win doesn't happen if we had beaten Butler.

As for the long view ... as good as these last two wins are, it still wouldn't stun me to see us lose to a Providence or St. John's. I'm one of this board's big optimists and Wojo backers, but I'm also a realist. We have shortcomings that have been exposed and will continue to be exposed.

Having said that - we'll be dancin' in '17, baby!

I expect MU to go undefeated at home the rest of the way. 5 more home wins gets us to 10. Winning two more road a games does not seem unreasonable. 12-6 very possible.

Maybe they are a lot of people.  I'm not one of them.  I'm just saying to expect a couple losses.  Five would shock me, and this place would going nuts (in a bad way) again.

We are 5-3. Preseason, I expected us to be 2-6 at this point. I also expected us to finish 10-8. Accordingly, I'm now expecting 13-5. Might end up lower, but the tourney looks very reachable now.

Wojo has finally shown that in the last 3 games he can now make coaching decisions (Even against the butler collapse) he has been better in this gauntlet then he has ever been. Benching fischer the last two games, giving Rienhart extended minutes the last two + duane tonight. Great coaching. The 1-3-1 trap was working almost all night.
