Please, I hate criticizing players and don't mean this to be a critique on Duane but two seasons ago he was one of our "go to guys". What has happened? I hope he can still be a "major contributor" off the bench, but he just seem to be invisible so far.

Recruited over his heine. Great mark for a program on da rise when da talent level keeps gettin' better. Never stop workin' on yo game, ai na?

without looking at the stats, is he getting the playing time or does wojo have him on a short leash?  i've just been watching the games from a more passive position, taking mental notes as the game goes on.  i do know that katin likes to hork 'em up though.  and sammy (don't call me doogie) hauser is looking like the real deal

I think due to lack of size, Wojo is reluctant to give him extended run, which, IMO is a mistake.    I would like to see a nearly even minutes distribution between HC, JjJ, and Duane between the 2 and the 3.    Duane has been one of our best on-ball defenders this year and is not forcing anything offensively.

Pretty easy.  There are more and better players around.  And honestly he might be having his best year in more limited action.  His OR, eFG% and Asst% are way up from the last couple of years.  And Wojo has him in during crunch time on the defensive end on Tuesday.  We will see if his minutes increase over the next few games.

I don't know if the numbers show it, but his 3 pt shooting seemed a lot better his freshman year. Also, he made some very questionable decisions at the end of games last year.

He may be similar to Dom James his senior year. When asked to do less on offense, he's more efficient and plays a much better floor game.

His percentage has been very consistent so far. 35.5% freshman year, 34.6 % last year, 35.3% this year. His shot volume is way down this year though, mostly due to less minutes

His overall FG% and eFG% are much higher this year.  He is taking much better shots.

I thought Duane was poised for a breakout season. I guess Wojo disagreed with that analysis.

That said, I think when Duane gets in games he does well, and I hope he can earn more consistent playing time. We are going to need him in the clutch in the Big East games.

His defense seems much better than last year from what I've seen...advanced defensive statistics might prove me incorrect, but that was my biggest criticism of him.  Offensively, not nearly as many out-of-control drives in the lane or early-in-the-shot-clock-first-touch-threes.  (Unfortunately Reinhardt has become a master of both of those).

The problem is simple, as others have alluded to:  Wojo has added so much talent that Duane is no longer one of the best 2 or 3 players on the team, he is one of the best 7 or 8 players on the team.  Good problem.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

In my opinion, he has not shown enough to give him that boost.  Hauser has proven himself as a worthy scorer and there are too many good people in front of him at the time.  With history showing us, not all great runs will continue into conference play, so I think there may be time then where his minutes may increase.

If Traci ends up being out for an extended period of time, I think Duane will eventually take minutes from Rowsey as the back-up PG. Despite the fact that Duane isn't really a PG, he's going to be a better option than Rowsey come conference play.

I think Rowsey would still be PG under that scenario but Duane might play more off the ball.

DienerTime34

When I saw the headline of this thread I thought for sure he was transferring.

Very could be. I just think Rowsey is going to get eaten alive defensively in the BE...but I hope I'm wrong.

Considering Haanif has been horrid recently, I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more run.

Agreed. I don't want him shooting 3s. Even on misses, the 3s from Hauser, Howard, and usually even jjj, look good leaving their hand. That is rarely the case with Duane. They look bad immediately.

Don't know if it's a loss of confidence or what - as he was a good shooter in HS - but I don't even want him taking open 3s.

Again, his 3P% is nearly identical to what it has been the past 2 years. And his efficiency overall is higher.

ive been thinking the same thing. Didn't Duane have a few 30 pt games 2 years back?? I think wojo has such a tight leash on him that its mentally effecting his game. he doesn't want to shoot. he doesn't want to drive. he just seems he cant play "his game" because he knows with wojo one mistake and your benched for 20 min. just my opinion but I think its part of the issue.

His freshman year he averaged a shot about every 3:00.  Last year it was just over 3:00.  This year it's every 3:30 or so.  But he is shooting *much* better.  If "his game" is shooting much more but shooting worse, Wojo probably did want to cut down on that.

Duane scored 30 against Tennessee his freshman year.

You're 100% incorrect about the rest of the your post. Duane is simply playing his role and he's playing very well and very efficiently.

As a frosh, he and Carlino were basically the only perimeter players with the ability to score. As a result, his role was to score. He averaged 12 per game with low efficiency.

Last season, the team was less dependent on his scoring with HE on the team and JJJ emerging in the second half. As a result, his scoring average and most of his metrics stayed about the same but his efficiency increased.

This season, the team has plenty of scorers. As a result, his scoring has decreased slightly per 40 but his efficiency, assists and TOs have all significantly improved.

Instead of complaining about Duane's lack of improvement and production, we should be lauding him for his ability and willingness to alter his role for the betterment of the team.

Are we sure he has?  Was not to happy about the Ellenson situation either, lets see if he stays next year as it looks from here he has a chance to start again.
