I read a lot of posts expressing concern about what it means for the season if we lose at Georgia. KenPom predicts a 1-point loss — essentially a pick-em game.

But what if we go in and dominate the same way we did against Vanderbilt?

The Bulldogs basically have one reliable offensive threat. It's much easier to game plan against that, as opposed to deciding if you focus on Luke, JaJuan or Haanif.

With the way MU defends passing lanes, we can make it really difficult for them to get the ball where they want it. Because Georgia is such a poor 3-point shooting team (just 32.8%, sound familiar?), perimeter defenders can sag into the middle more.

And even if Yante Maten has a big game, so what? The Bulldogs average just 72 points a game — while only one team (Michigan) has held us to less than 75 points. Georgia is not Michigan. Not even close.

I expect a close-fought game. But I think it's also possible we punch them in the mouth and they never get back up.

If we beat Georgia by the requisite number of points, I predict each and every last Scooper be like:

"We... have no response. That was perfect."

Georgia is much better defensively then Vandy.

First true road test for this group.....would be a great wn.

Then we have one more win this season.

It would be cool that's what. It wouldn't be just another win.

What a pleasant dream.   A game played so well against a quality opponent that nobody can complain.

This makes me sad.

Why? We've lost similar road games to Arizona State, LSU, Vanderbilt, and others with tourney teams. Winning this type of game would be big for us now but also would have been years ago when we were routinely losing such games.

The two most likely candidates are:  Georgia - 'they really aren't that good' or Reinhardt - because....

But you're correct Scoop abhors a whining vacuum

Here's what I believe: even if we crush Georgia, so what? Its one game. It's early in the season. Of course, people will overreact either way. But they shouldn't

We could beat Wisconsin next week 153-2 next week, and people would find fault with the defense we played.

brewcity77

Realistically, if we win by 1 or 41 it's the same. Just 1 win. Same RPI impact, will look a little better on Pomeroy, but still need 19 wins and a 10-8 Big East record to have a shot at the tourney.

Last season, the middle school team I coach won a game 52-2. I texted my wife and kids, and my son's reaction was: "How the hell did you let them get 2 points? I thought you said your defense was good."

Jesus, doesn't your squad have any scrubs that you can play in situations like that?

It is up to Wojo to find a way to stop that threat. He couldn't against Pitt.

Pitt didn't just have one scoring threat.

brewcity77

And similarly to how we will overreact with a blowout win, we'll also overreact with a blowout loss. It's a big game, but at the end of the day it's only the W or L that matters.

Frenns Liquor Depot

Win or lose I will be incrementally more positive on the season if we play good defense today.

bilsu

I much rather win a close game than blow Georgia out. The NCAA does not look at margins, it is either a win or a loss. The team has had only one close game and they lost that one. It is more important for a team to learn how to win a close game than blow another team out.

fjm

1048 and I already have the nervous poops. Gonna be a long day. I think we win. Buuuut what if we don't? What if our frosh go in and wither in their first true road game.

Listen I love Sam and Markus, but the atmosphere will be bigger than the state championships. Bigger than the Fiba world champs (actually I don't know this. I've never been to it but I can't imagine it brings out an opposing fan base that is going to be rabbid).

Win, yes!!
Nervous... yup.

We got this.  Heading to the store to gets some wings for the game.  Tspano83 and maybe JB (if he can get his a$$out of bed) over in the mancave to watch our Warriors.
