Big day for our boys.  How many lines do we fall with a concerning loss to Dayton?

None, Marquette isn't the only team that can't stop Antetokounmpo

Score was 83-79.

34-29 MU at half.

I would check that halftime score again

Don't see this posted yet ...

Jeff Goodman‏ @GoodmanESPN
Told that Marquette edged Dayton in closed scrimmage. Haanif Cheatham led Marquette and Charles Cooke led Dayton.

This out to help with our NCAA seeding.

That spin move on the baseline by Haanif though...

Yeah real nice.  Last year he would've just kept running straight into the defender and been called for a charge.

In the video that the Marquette MBB Twitter account posted it lists the halftime score as 34-29 and the final as 83-79.

Hey JB, did the rules change to score keeping?  Even the Dayton article says that the scores are supposed to be kept private, but apparently MU doesn't think so.

QuoteThe NCAA allows Division I teams to play one scrimmage against each other, but they are not allowed to publicize the games or report final scores

edit: Hm, I didn't find the rule, but found this in another article..

QuoteThe NCAA does not allow schools to promote the scrimmage, or invite the public or media to watch, but for the first time, it is allowing schools to release scrimmage details.

Those weren't basketball scores... they were test scores.

79-83 is what Kostas needs to get eligible.  29-34 is where he currently is.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I remember hearing last year that schools can release data, and coaches can comment, after the fact.  Still not beforehand.

First off I was not present for this, but here is the recap I got.

1)   HC was almost unstoppable on offense twist turns and pull up jumpers.  Definitely MVP.
2)   Heldt started both as a reward and as a possible ongoing scenario to keep LF out of early foul trouble.  (I think buzz did the same with DG a few years back).
3)   Offense was very good.  Spacing created some very easy shots inside for LF.
4)   Defense was ok, but rebounding was not great.  DU out rebounded MU, but I did not get exact numbers.
deleted bad info
6)   Turnovers are still something to work on,  Was not over the top, but did allow DU to come back and take lead in 2ND half.
7)   Wojo likes these events for 4 reasons
          a.   Game like experience
          b.   Practice road game scenario (travel, hotel, etc.)  it is a good dry run for everyone.
          c.   Team bonding away from home
          d.   No distractions from fans, family, media, and janitors in the corner with brooms.
8)   NCAA does allow programs to share details after the event, but coaches typically agree on what each other will say or not say.
9)   No Kostas,  new rule this year that partial qualifiers cannot even practice for the first semester, I had not heard this.  Has to have be at proper graduation track after first semester to practice.  Then can play next year if he still is on track.

Nice recap...appreciate something to chew on while we await Vandy.

Matty V with a great write up on the scrimmage: http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/marquette/2016/10/31/notes-marquette-beats-dayton-scrimmage/93074440/

5-22 from 3 pt land.
11-2 outscored on second chance points

Usually not a recipe for victory, but looks like Hani will be Jimmy-esque in getting to the line.

MuMark

Wojo gave different info to Matt then BD got.

Didn't shoot well from 3(note the possible reason) and Wojo very happy with how they took care of the ball

Welp....

MuMark

Why welp?

Nice to be able to beat a good team without shooting well from deep. Shows we might not be as 1 dimensional as some feared.

Because Matt V. just said something that directly contradicted what BD said.

Time  for me to get a better source or get back to sweeping.

3pt shooting is really a ?,  only thing I can think was he was talking about Dayton then, not sure.

Turnovers was right, Heldt starting was right, HC was right.  Not sure how I got 3pt shooting wrong?  Will check on Saturday.

Go Warriors.

I don't know, it's tough to think everyone but Reinhardt combined for 2/14 from 3 but I guess it's not unheard of.

MuMark

So BD got some bad info.........maybe the guy who told him fell asleep during some of the misses?
