The NCAA High Jump Championship was tonight at Hayward Field in Eugene Oregon.

It was won by Southern Cal's Randall Cunningham Jr.  ... the son of the Eagles QB of the 1980s/1990s.

His winning height was 2.25m or 7' 4.5"

The was the same height that Wally jump his Sophomore year at the NCAA Championship when he was at Minnesota (finished  2nd).

Last year at the NCAA indoor championship Wally jumped 2.23m or 7' 3.75" (finished 3rd)

Wally's PR is 2.28m or 7' 5.75"

The point of this is if Wally can regain his top form, again just regain what he has done many times before, an NCAA championship is in his reach next year.

Is he eligible next year?

He has one season of indoor eligibility remaining, because the NCAA says indoor T&F and outdoor T&F are two different sports.

However:

QuoteEllenson's career ends in disappointment, but not without its many successes as he was a four-time All-American, including a three-time honoree during outdoor competition - highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2013 and a fifth-place national finish a year ago.

That was a reference to his outdoor career.  Like you noted above, he still has one more season of indoor if he chooses to use it.

There's also the part where they're counting up all four of his All-American honors - 1 indoor, 3 outdoor - while summing up his career.

It kinda sounds like he's officially done.

He's been offered a full ride track scholarship next year to compete in indoor.

Did he graduate last month?  Will he graduate after summer school?

Is he quitting everything and going back to Rice Lake?

After this past season, not qualifying for the trials or NCAAs, is a really bad time to go pro.  He will get practically nothing in appearance fees and endorsements.

--------

I've heard none of the above so I'm assuming he's coming back for one more year to compete in indoor and have school paid for .

I think he will finish off school and do the indoor year. If he only focuses on track and gets his body in the right form for jumping he should be fine.

lose weight

good jumpers are rail thin ... simple psychics, easier to get less mass over the bar.

Probably better to be telekinetic than psychic, tbh
