I think that opera singer from Skokie lives next door to my mom....

I wasn't admitting I was wrong.  Because I wasn't.

Sorry, my mistake. I thought you were agreeing that the guy was the main writer on one of the iterations of the show.

With Chico's demise the torch has been passed and is in exceedingly competent incompetent hands.

I gotta side with Chick on this one, Keefe.

When I hear "Gong Show", I only think of the original - not some pathetic re-make to squeeze out the last couple of dollars available.

If you wanna talk Godfather - then you can interchange all three - but not the Gong Show.

Fact is, Dave Sinker was the lead writer for The Gong Show. Just like that Filipino guy is the lead singer for Journey.

Jen Lada will correct chick.

The winner gets $1 million.  They guy who won the second season (a ventriloquist) has parlayed it into a huge career/fortune, but I'm not sure any of the other winners have done much after.

are you referring to terry fator(2nd season winner)?  he is absolutely amazing!  seen him three times in vegas.  he really took over after danny gands unfortunate, early passing.  i thought danny gands was incredible until i saw fator.  he's puts on a great show at very reasonable prices by vegas standards and always hails the military-donates the sales of his show memorabilia.

if you haven't seen him, you've gotto at least check him out on youtube-then you will want to see his show.  he sings everyone from nat king cole to axl rose and mikey jackson spot on...as a ventriloquist thru hus puppets-unbelievable!!

this is a nice review of his greatest

My apologies.  Fixed.

Nah, nothing on you.   But you can't go a day on Facebook without someone linking to "the girl / old woman / tall person / short person / large person / redhead / wheelchair person / excited person" who can really sing and YOU MUST WATCH THIS!

Yes, that's who I was referring to.  Have seen a little youtube, but not much.  I just remember being surprised when I saw the "AGT winner gets $100 million contract" headline.

Not at all a fan of this genre/deep country music, can't stand Miranda Lambert/this song, but the fact that this girl is also 12 years old is pretty impressive.

Some woman shot her fiancĂ© in the neck with a flaming arrow on America's Got Talent.  Her fiancĂ© should look into whether she has a secret love life going on...

This was her finals performance.  Really unique voice.

Every song she did was great.

I don't like televised karaoke. Finally some amazing original songs

Agreed.  I'm glad her audition went viral because I literally had never watched the show.  After that I watched it a few times and there were actually some pretty cool acts.

So since VanderWaal's video went viral I watched most of the rest of last season's America's Got Talent and then watched the first 2 episodes of this new season that started last week.  Each episode was 2 hours long and the acts have been largely, "Meh," in my opinion.  Until the last act tonight...

Hot take coming...she's probably more talented than Taylor Swift.  Taylor Swift had a gift for writing catchy, relatable songs at a young age, but she's never been much of a vocalist.  She's gotten better but she was pretty pitchy and thin live through most of her ascent.

This girl has a unique tone to her voice and props to her for recognizing and embracing it at her age.  And her lyrics and song structure were precocious as heck.  Obviously talent doesn't always equate to mega success, but she's got it in spades.

That's luke warm at best, only luke warm because legions of brainwashed internet people leap to defend Taylor Swift at the slightest provocation. She's devoid of artistic talent of any kind. Able to produce a series of notes that are completely produced and engineered to appeal to drones of clicks on the internet? Absolutely. Pretty in a nonthreatening way? Yes. Marketable as all heck? Darn straight.

Talented? Not in the slightest.

There hasn't been a good talent show on TV since The Gong Show.

Which I see they're bringing back (along with Match Game; To Tell the Truth; Battle of the Network Stars; The $100,000 Pyramid...)

I think the networks have figured out that the only people who watch them any longer are people who are 40+ years old and yearn for days gone by.

And let's be honest, the Match Game without Charles Nelson Reilly is a terrible show.

Yeah, she was very impressive.  What she's doing is incredibly difficult, and I've never seen that before.

The nine year old they had on last night was also pretty good.

True.  I've watched several of them...for nostalgia sake.  To Tell the Truth is still kind of fun, and I've watched several times with my kids.  The $100,000 Pyramid is just "meh" (and I used to like that one).  Match Game is aggressively bad.  Unwatchable.

And, I'll give Battle of the Network Stars a go...again, just for nostalgia.
