Because they are great and do it the right way.
there are a lot of great universities that do it the right way - but you are a very ardent fan and, since it rubs the vast majority of your fellow alumni the wrong way, i'm interested in why the affinity specifically for ND.  it puzzles me that someone can form a strong bond with a university they didn't attend.

What i have against them is that, because i have a gloriously Irish name, ever since i was 4 people assumed i was an ND fan.....gets to wear on a person.   i don't hold any hatred just a healthy dislike.

I don't think it is that hard.  I'm a diehard UCLA fan, didn't attend or even apply.  Since I was a little kid, attending UCLA football or basketball games.  Neighbors with UCLA head coach, Terry Donahue, etc.  Cheer for them wildly.   Growing up Catholic, Notre Dame was the school to cheer for.  I loved cheering against them while at MU, or whenever MU plays them, but never had the hatred for them.

Were you rejected by ND and still harbor hate for them?

I said no to them. Pretty easy decision.

But you are not purposely antagonistic about UCLA, ND or any other institutions success towards your fellow alumni.  Heis is......BIG difference.

As an Illinois State Scholar back in the '70's, I never considered ND.  I was accepted at U of C and Northwestern and attended the Technological Institute at the latter.  Did you ever sniff a classroom in South Bend?

Know who was worse?

The jackasses who were rejected by ND and came to Marquette and still rooted for NotreHomo. (Called them that in the 70s.  Not any more)

ND sucks, but today I love them.

Rally sons of Notre Dame:
Sing her glory and sound her fame,
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:
Rah, rah, for Notre Dame
We will fight in ev-ry game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne'er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Loyal to Notre Dame

Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky.
What though the odds be great or small
Old Notre Dame will win over all,
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory.

Learned on campus in the late '70s...

Piss Piss on old Notre Dame
They don't eff women cuz they are gay*
They can't even drink one beer
Never touch brandy cuz they are queer
Everyone knows that MU is best
We will beat ND eff all the rest
So what the hell chug down those beers and march on to Hegartys!

*not that there's anything wrong with that - remember, this was the '70s

Outstanding!! Yes Eff No Dick. But it really pisses one off that they are now in the Elite 8. Cannot and will not even give them a wet turd for beating Bucky.

And Heise is reminding me why UND fans are so obnoxious.
They are who they are. More than any other college fans, ND fans literally believe that their crap does not stink, when everybody else know that their BS is the worst of all--even Bucky's.

I don't think it is that hard.  I'm a diehard UCLA fan, didn't attend or even apply.

I was the same way with Vanderbilt. Football was UGLY but their basketball was pretty good -- and my Dad hired one of their stars off the 1974 SEC Champion who played us in the NCAA. I went to high school with two of their starters between 1974 and 1979.

I cheered for Vanderbilt growing up, followed their team closely but even at the young age of 10, I was a Warrior. As long as they didn't play Marquette, they were OK.

Never thought about going there. Little too many Skips and Muffys for my taste. Last time I checked, my blood was red, not blue and if my nose was held as high as most Vanderbilt grads held theirs', my nose would be an impediment to aircraft.

As for Notre Dame .... peeeeee uuuuuuu! Yuck. Didn't ever want to go there!
