I doubt that the results of the NBA combine will effect Henry's decision.  It's a good bet that he won't participate.

I agree.  I don't think he'll go to Chicago and I really don't think he'll leave MU hanging at all, either way.

I'm not sure. I get the sense that he's not going to sign with an agent. I think its between staying and declaring without signing.

I agree that from a narrow definition this is true....but we dont know yet what the transfer situation is for this season...we definitely had transfers last season.  So TBD.

If the point was we are less volatile than with Buzz -- then the answer seems to be yes (again TBD).  Transfers are inevitable in today's college bball, but it bordered on excessive with Buzz because of his willingness to take flyers on HS students and his apparent candor.

The big question for me will be what happens with Wojo's own recruits. If Sandy were to leave, I'd take it as a less volatile transfer than say Anim because while Sandy did recommit to Wojo, he was originally a Buzz guy, whereas Anim was all Wojo.

When you look around at the college game right now, there's only one team in the Sweet 16 (Wisconsin) that isn't getting major contributions from at least one senior. The best players this year are guys like Hield, Valentine, Brogdon, Johnson, and Ellis. I think while the one-and-done model can work for teams like Kentucky, coaches are starting to see the volatility in that model and realizing you need experience to sustain success.

That's where keeping guys like Anim around will be important, in my opinion. He may be a bit player now, but in 2019 he could very well be a key starter, even a star.

Completely agree -- I think you explained what I was thinking by 'TBD'.  For example we seem to be going after PGs hard.  If this is because one of our is transferring, it would be a major disappointment in my mind because of what you describe above.

When you look at the top seniors, almost all of them at least had significant roles as freshmen. That wasn't the case for all of our guys, but I do think as fourth year starters, Traci and Haanif could be akin to what Oklahoma has with Cousins and Hield.

I think , if he declares, he will participate. Under the current system, you have the right to return, so you are really going to want to know where you stand. The only reason not to participate is if you have no intent on going back to school.

You don't go to the combine if you think it can hamper your draft status.  You go if you think it will help.

If he is a projected top 10 pick, and has nowhere to go but down, he will likely skip it.

Don't the top players jut go do direct work-outs with teams....thereby not needing the combine?  I would imagine HE would be in this situation.

Yep.. Wojo suggested as much on his radio show with Homer on Thursday.

Still no announced transfers.  Do you think MU is past the window that we would hear about one?  If we are not past the window, when do you think we are?  Remember, the longer a potential transfer goes without announcing, the less options they have as spots fill up.

If no one transfers out, then we are set with a full 13 scholarship roster for the first time in many years.   When was the last time we started a season with 13 scholarship players?  Was that also when Crean was the coach?

I think it's definitely a good sign that nobody's announced a transfer. But I don't know that the window is ever closed. Jameel McKay transferred in October, just before the start of the season. Jeronne Maymon, Deonte Burton and John Dawson all transferred before the end of the first semester.

Crean had lots of transfers.   Hence the term 'house-Creaning'.

You are never past the window for a transfer. But it is encouraging. Still think we see one or two departures. Not necessarily transfers

So other than Wally saying he is no longer going to play basketball, what is another example of what you are referring to?

Todd Mayo did not come back his Senior Year and elected to go to the D League.

Under Buzz Williams, yes.  But the discussion was assuming that Buzz never had a transfer free year and was directed toward whether or not Crean ever had one.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

He may have elected to go to the D league but he didn't elect to leave Marquette.

I meant on this team right now.

We have 13 scholarship players so I have not even opened the 10 page thread about transfer options.  Until someone leaves, that thread is a waste of time and energy.

Now if Wally announces he is becoming a professional high jumper after the NCAA championship this June, that might open a spot (again, if that even happens).  Otherwise, what other non-transfer options exists among the other 12 scholarship players?

I don't see any.

Something can always happen. Someone gets kicked off the team. Some get pole axed. Someone doesn't qualify academically. Someone goes pro overseas. Someone "loses their love for the game."

Don't know which thread but a few posters have insinuated that Duane has considered going overseas to play. Hope that doesn't happen and I am by no way spreading that rumor - just repeating what I have read on here.

Duane is a key guy for us - really hope he sticks it out and comes back next year hungry as ever.
