It's officially the off season but there was a really interesting twitter conversation between Paint Touches and Anonymous Eagle regarding an unpublished Larry Williams interview. Sounds like PT has some interesting stuff theyre holding on to.

I've said several times before, but I would love to read a behind-the-scenes story on the Buzz tenure here at Marquette.  I feel like there was a lot that went on that people just went with because we were winning (a lot no less) - but once we started struggling in 2013-2014, it all went on a collision course.

Between Larry Williams, DJ Newbill, Vander, McKay, and Maymonn - I'm sure there's some juicy tidbits that would provide a solid untold story of MU Basketball.

what makes this any different than the Bo Ryan story not getting reported locally?

I'm sure the guy mainly responsible for "messin' with happy" who was fired before you could blink would be a great source of unbiased information. Maybe Chico could add his two cents.

Pilarz was such a lame duck it's really remarkable. I'm just happy I was around long enough to have my diploma signed by Lovell.

I've got one signed by Fr. Wild, one signed by Pilarz. Also, never really thought about who signed them until just now.

GGGG

I have no idea where my diploma is.

I didn't know that was his nickname in the AD: Buzz "Happy" Williams.

I went to an event in Miami a few years back and had D-Wade sign mine. Hanging in my home office til this day.

Two year statute of limitation has expired.  Here is the main reason why.

1.   Buzz was concerned about what limitations any new AD would be able to place on him and he wanted say on who that new AD would be.

2.   Fr. Wild told him that the hiring of the new AD would be left up to the new President and it would be up to the new AD to establish the leadership and polices of the athletic department.

3.   Brent told them that he was getting offers and was not sure if he should listen to them and the response back was, "do what you need to do."

4.   Buzz then called a few BOD members and major donors for support and did not get the answers he was looking for.

Is there blame to go all around, sure, but Fr. Wild and Bill Cords were not going to go down the road again, like with TC, where they gave him everything (including his father-in-law, who is a great guy, as the de facto AD.)  Especially since they would be leaving this situation for someone else to clean up, if it went bad.

The bottom line was Buzz wanted guarantees that he was not going to get and he took that as a sign that he was "no longer wanted".  VT was the best offer out there and he took it.  It was an emotional decision and logic can never turn around an emotional decision.  I personally have a lot to thank Buzz for and still consider him a friend.

One of the best things Buzz did was make sure LW moved on.  Hired by the wrong guy for all of the wrong reasons.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Great insight...thank you

Thanks BD.

All of that makes sense.  I was aware he wasn't liked by the BoD (as was anyone with a pulse), and wouldn't expect them to give him the answers he wanted.

In regard to LW, I was never crazy about a football guy being our AD.  So, thanks Buzz?

You've missed about 6 other names there also would add some awesome sauce.....I'm sure Lenny is already pounding me, but it is what it is.

Buzz wanted carte blanche, and after what HIS team did off the court and putting MU through the ringer in the press, it wasn't going to happen.  For someone that so valued character, it always surprised me that he didn't understand what was happening at times, and WHY the university acted in the manner it did....which is to say you're not going to get complete run of show here.  His nonsense about football schools was just a cover.  He might believe it, but he is terribly misinformed.

As for Big Daddy's comments about Jack Harbaugh...I agree completely.  He's a great guy, strong strong leader....Keefe, go ahead and pound me now.

Thank you Buzz for the good you did.  I wish you well.

Not surprising at all. Buzz was thin-skinned and could act irrationally when he perceived to be "disrespected." He's an odd, interesting character and I was sorry to see him go...though I might think differently if I had to work with him every day.

The PT Twitter conversation also included a bit about the Shaka saga and that it might have been misinformation coming from the Buzz camp which led to the multiple reports from local sources and the infamous "done deal"....

Not sure I understand that one for a number of reasons. Regardless, I enjoy the back story as there was clearly a lot of moving parts and misalignment among those in power re: Buzz.

Glad we ended up where we did though, really could have been a lot worse...

So yo, Bumstead was true to his word. Stayed as long as MU would have him. Just what constituted " havin' him" varied by who was definin' da phrase, ai na? Went after da Auburn gig, but day picked Bruce, hey?
