In the NIT, per Big Apple Buckets:

http://www.nycbuckets.com/2016/02/nit-bracketology-feb-17-2016/

Considering the difficulty of the schedule going forward (@ Creighton, Nova, G'town, @ Butler), hanging on to a NIT invitation would be quite an achievement.

Yep I think 2-3 over the next 5 is a realistic expectation. Depaul and Gtown are my bets. I also recognize we could go 0-5. I also recognize we could go 4-1.

If the Badgers get rid of Gard, can Marquette hire him?

Good idea. He'd probably make an OK assistant. He could help Wojo choose boinking partners.

Bo was tanking it so that after he quit the bounce Gard got would lead to his man getting the job from Barry after all, well played Bo.

Wait, I thought he retired because he killed somebody at AutoZone?

Hopefully that was teal. Gard is killing it with just as many young players. Marquette looks lost for 20 minutes, every game.

Gard has 4 starters who were in the rotation in 2 solid NCAA/Final 4 runs and a frosh center who spent a year practicing against national POY Kaminsky.  No comparison.

Why did we miss the NIT in Buzz's last year.  We were 9-9 in conf with a few OT losses.  Did we turn it down?  Did too many regular season conf champs go?

17-15...maybe NIT "bubble" but still not very good

NIT only has 32 teams & has the rule where they need to accept regular season champions. So the number shrinks even more.

I hadn't realized this until the other day

Right, the margin between being in the NCAA and missing the NIT is actually pretty small...3 or 4 wins can swing you from dancing to nothing.

And/or stupid losses to DePaul on your home floor.

Don't remind us  :) even thinking about being swept by DePaul & Seton Hall makes me ill.

Sagarin has an early line of 1.5 for this game

MU once lost to TCU three times in one season, sorry for ruining your post-lunch time.

Yet we beat them in Madison early in the year with our "inexperienced" players and looked good in doing that.  I wish we can stop with the excuses.  The Badgers were not a very good team early in the year.  They are now.  Is it experience or can we say that the changes Gard made have made that team much improved from early in the year.  If you have seen any of the Badger games throughout the year, you would see that without question that Gard is a very good coach.

As regard to MU, I don't see any significant changes from the beginning of the year that makes me put on the blue and gold glasses and believe without questioning that everything is going to be ok next year.  This team as "inexperienced" as it is, should be playing at a higher level.  We are not a good team period.  I was hoping this team would improve rapidly as our "inexperienced" players went through the season but unfortunately that is not the case.  Its safe to say Wojo's coaching ability pales in comparison to Gard.

It appears to me that UW underperformed early in the year, given their roster.  They have improved, but should have been better earlier in the year.

It seems to me that MU is about where I'd expect them to be, including winning some we should not win and losing some we should win.  Have we jelled and made a big leap since December.  No, we have not, and that can be disappointing, but the realist in me understands where we are at with 4 returning players from last year.. all with little DI experience.  Patience.  Expectations for some were/are too high given the roster.  We've lost a couple of games through inexperience, and that is the difference between being a bubble team and being an NIT team.

I think we will continue to see the same and even win one we shouldn't...

This was a good read on MU & the NIT:

http://www.anonymouseagle.com/2016/2/17/11032878/marquette-basketball-its-time-to-take-nit-bracketology-seriously

"SB Nation's Chris Dobbertean marks 24 conferences lining up as a one bid league in his NCAA Bracketology update from Tuesday, so that's a lot of spots that could get vacuumed up by regular season champions if things don't go their way in the conference tournament.  To provide some context, 12 teams used their NIT automatic bid in 2015, and they occupied all four 7 and 8 seeds and two of the 6 seeds."

The only thing that's safe to say is it's too early to know about either gentleman's coaching ability yet.
