Thinking the Hall may crack the top 25. If not, top 30 for sure.

Hopefully Providence sticks in the top 20.

No respect for the Hall. 31 in the latest poll. I'm baffled how they are an 11-seed in the latest bracketology. No way they should be that low. They have a similar issue to us, with 6 sub-220 RPI teams on their schedule. Drags their RPI and SOS down. And I know...it's not their RPI rating, but those 6 teams have a combined 32-101 record.

Otherwise, most of their resume is comparable to most teams on the 4-6 lines.

Nah, Big 12 reigns supreme

60% of their league is in. Hope you are not a math major. If a conference had 25 teams in it and had 10 teams would you say it is the best?

Tied with the Big East.

Big 12 has 10 teams now, so better than the Big East

I sent Ms. Legs (Nova freshman) a text letting her know that Nova is ranked no. 1.

Response:  "Is the AP out yet?"

Raised right (other than choice of schools).

This was funny. Well done.

Tied with the Big East.

There are 10 teams in the B12.

Edit: see I was about 5th to mention this.  Didn't mean to pile on.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Very good chance they will be #1 when they come to the BC.

They may lose at X but there wouldn't be a new poll before playing us.

@DP, SJU, @Temple, Butler. You would think all should be wins

I was thinking the same thing.  I don't see them losing until @X.
I officially endorse students storming the court if we beat the #1 team at home this year.

Instead of having what could result in a dangerous situation with a court storming, why not let the teams shake hands and then have the home team storm the student section?

Matt V agrees with you (so do I but i don't count) and has them at #23.

Jerry Palm has them as an 8 seed. Lunardi has been more down on the Big East than most this year.

Bracket Matrix (compilation of all brackets) has Seton Hall as a 9 seed.

Okay...so who should be ahead of them? Here's each team's case:

Villanova: Their three losses came to teams all ranked in the top-11 in the country (last week's poll) and they avenged one of those losses when they beat Providence on the road. Yes, Oklahoma rolled them, but
they hung with UVa for most of that game on the road before losing at the end

Oklahoma: Their three losses all line up as worse than 'Nova's losses (KU< OK, ISU<UVa, KSU<PC) and in their last 10 games, they are 7-3 while 'Nova is 9-1. You simply can't make a vote based on one result because you are comparing all 351 teams in the country.

Iowa: They'll get some votes, but of their 4 losses, only 1 (Maryland) is to a top-10 team. Also, their 10-1 conference record includes only 5 top-60 wins per Pomeroy, whereas Villanova has 8.

Maryland: Definitely worth a thought. I'd vote 'Nova because of better losses (OK>UNC, UVa>MSU, PC>UM) but it's really close and those are very comparable losses. If the better losses doesn't sway you, I'd point out UMD having only 3 top-60 conference wins to 'Nova's 8.

Xavier: Like with Oklahoma, I'd throw out the head to head loss. XU only has two losses, but the Georgetown one is definitely glaring compared to the 'Nova losses, especially as it was at home. Is it much worse than PC at home? Tough to say. What really stands out for me is conference play. 'Nova has a better record in the same conference, but they have done so against a tougher conference schedule as well. Of XU's 9 conference wins, 6 came against the bottom 3 teams (SJU, DPU, MU). 'Nova hasn't just been better in conference, they've been better against the tougher teams. No real question here.

Who else can you even consider for #1? Kansas, who is only 5-3 in their last 8 including getting blasted by a bad Oklahoma State team? Michigan State, who is 4-3 in their last 7 with two of those losses at home, including a bad Nebraska team? Virginia, who is 7-3 in their last 10 with all three losses coming to teams that have a combined zero votes in both polls? UNC, who lost twice this week including to an unranked ND team?

Unless you can argue someone is more deserving (and I think I pretty compellingly proved there isn't anyone more deserving) then 'Nova pretty much has to be your #1. It won't do anything for them in March, but based on body of work and recent trends of play, right now Villanova looks like the best team in the country.
jeesh I'm not gonna argue with that.
Well played.. Oh well even though the other teams have lost i still think KU UNC UO would rock nova

Very possible. Honestly, I don't even think Nova is the best team in the Big East, but I do think their case for #1 in the country is pretty clear at this point.

I hope Nova keeps winning.

Will make it all the more fun to beat them on Natl MU Day!

No, I actually forgot that the Big12 is one of those conferences that are named for a number that doesn't indicate its number of members.

brewcity77

One other note...I definitely think Villanova at #1 is good for the league. Yes, they've disappointed two straight tourneys, but at this point of the season, all you can do is win the games in front of you and be ranked as high as possible. 'Nova has done that to the point where the coaches and media alike consider them the best team out there. Hopefully they show and prove come March, but to this point of the season, you really can't do much more than they've done.

Seton Hall is not #31 because there is no such thing as #31 in the AP poll.

Hypothetically, let's say that before they fill out their ballots, every AP voter puts together a list of their top 30 teams.  Now let's say that Seton Hall was unanimously #26 on everyone's lists this week, yet they would have received zero votes and not even appeared on the ORV list because there are no points for second twenty-sixth place.

The top 25 is exactly that and nothing more.
