Henry, without question.  Swaggys contributions were great.  But, Henry carried this team inthe second half.  Don't think this board really appreciates wat Henry brings to the table.

Death on call

Duane, and not even close.

We're losing 53-50 with 10:48 to go when he subs in.

He immediately makes a layup to cut it to 1. He  then makes a 3 to put us ahead. After two turnovers by Ellenson and one by Carter, Duane hits a 3 and we never trail again.

He then assists on baskets by Ellenson and Fischer as we go up 67-63.

The man was clutch. Plus he finished with 14 points and 5 assists. And on a day we treated the basketball as if it were covered in Crisco, he had only one turnover.

This is one of the easier SoG calls of the season.

I'll have what he's having,
I agree big threes when we needed them, great clutch shots

Henry a close second, but too much "freshmanitis" early in the game.

Wilson.  Played hard.  Plays like a leader when the game is on the line.

Honestly, double-doubles are rare for MU, we have a history of not having great bigs recently.

But nationwide there are over 30 players AVERAGING a double double.  That means close to 10% of teams have a guy that does that every night, day in day out.  They aren't as rare as we tend to think they are.

How many freshmen though? I think it has to be less than 5

I am almost 30 and I can't think of another freshmen who has had the kind of impact HE has had in their freshman year at MU. Not even Wade his freshman year.

First, agree with the Duane pick.  But as regards to Henry and OVER 30 players averaging over a double-double:

  • I only count 27 not over 30 (nit picking agreed)
  • only 12 play for high major competition
  • of those 12, four are freshmen

This board is doing the same thing it always does.  It judges players against their outsized expectations.  It's the same reason some here actually labelled our leading scorer on an Elite 8 team a "bust."

Well, that's only because Wade didn't play his freshman year. He dominated in practice, though, and when he became eligible his sophomore year he was an instant star.

I meant Wade's first year of play

Oh he is a great player and an unbelievable freshman.  A rarity.  My point was that a double double in general is not that uncommon.

STOG is regardless of year in the program.  So what year they are is irrelevant.

People are assuming that if Henry gets a double double he should automatically get STOG, I would argue that is not the case as close to 30 do that every night, we are just not use to having one of those guys.

Herman Cain

Nice to see Duane getting SOTG. He definitely earned it.

Looked great in practice.

Just kidding, but DW was not eligible as a freshman.
