Would not surprise me to see Northern Iowa's head coach as Wisconsin's next coach.

MomofMUltiples

In a loss to Northern Iowa, looks like he had 7 points and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes. Including a 3-pointer  :o
I mean, OK, maybe he's secretly a serial killer who's pulled the wool over our eyes with his good deeds and smooth jumper - Pakuni (on Markus Howard)

From the Wisconsin Lutheran exhibition game it was clear that what Wojo expected from his players was something that Burton was not going to be giving Wojo.  It was probably best for both sides and for Iowa State for Burton to move on.

Henry may have never seen the ball had Deonte stayed.

Perhaps, but he still would be a nice guy to have around.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Why would it he "be a nice guy to have around," if "perhaps" he wasn't meeting the coaches expectations?

Water under the bridge.  Cohen / Cheatham are more than capable wing players.

Watching Burton last night.  He is still an amazing athlete with a lot of talent.

He still refuses to play team defense and is a black hole on offense.  He stands around waiting for the ball and when he gets it, he is going to try to score and that is it.

Wojo expected more team basketball from him.  If he had stayed, maybe Wojo would have been able to get him to buy in, if not he wouldn't have played.  At Iowa State, they don't expect him to buy in to team basketball.

For sure, but you have 13 scholorships. Id much rather one go to Deonte than Mache. I agree the Cohen and Cheatham are capable and probably much better for this team, but having Deonte around wouldn't make this team worse, and if he did, he wouldn't play.

The dudes mom had just died last year - any way he was playing should have been taken with an enormous grain of salt. Don't misunderstand me..I don't think Deonte is a good defensive player, but again, not a guy I would hate to have around, and by all accounts a great kid.

But what's done is done, and in hindsight his departure was no biggie a mere 12 months later.

Couldn't agree more. Burton may have been a 'nice guy to have around' but it would have been better if he knew how to play defense and share the ball.

I'll take the more balanced team play of Cohen and Cheatham every time.

There is a reason he left Milwaukee and it had nothing to do with his mother's passing.

ISU has an embarrassing level of depth. I know we just play 7 guys too but they have literally no one that they even begin to trust beyond 7 without Long now.

And the two bench guys are Burton who can't play D and just looks to score, and then Cooke who is just a really bad(at least what ive seen so far) version of Trent Lockett in that he looked good for a crap Pac 12 team but vs real comp the numbers dont carry over and in Lockett's case he had intangible skills to make big plays in many areas.

So if Niang, Morris and Mckay(great top3) dont play well they will keep having to fight out of these holes.

Yes. Plus we still have an unused one. 11/13 used plus Mache was awarded one of the two available ones.

I would rather have our current line up, Hauser and another recruit of some sort for next year.

I will admit right now that I miss Burton's offense FAR less than I thought I would.

He and Gardner got in each other's way when they were on the court together. How could he, Luke and Henry have played together?

Burton might be more "talented" than others on the team, but building a basketball team is more than just slapping the 5 best offensive players together.

MBD is amazing. He is missed dearly.

That said, we have a great core in heNBA & Luke + Duane, with help from the rest...

I agree, Mike. I thought he would be hard to replace but it was likely addition by subtraction.

I hope ISU starts losing. Those guys have been suckling at Mother Marquette's teat long enough.
