That would be an AR-15.  I'd be more worried about someone carrying a semi auto shotgun.

You'd be OK with an AR-10?

Looks like everyone but the offender survived.
Thankfully he was armed with a knife instead of an AR-10.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people, no?

This is probably the best case study for getting rid of guns right now.

On a light note:  The Politics Board doesn't creep into the Superbar, people creep the politics board onto the Superbar.

On a serious note: ChitownSpace couldn't be more right that this is the best (and most unfortunate) argument for logical gun control.

I'll take the blame for the first note.

I really didn't want this becoming a political discussion, which is why I posted it here. If the mods believe it's in the wrong place, by all means, move it over.

what type of discussion are you going for?

Fair.  I'll take blame for having spent too much time on the politics board* and assumed this would head down the same extremist sewer it would on the other board.  I'd love to see the discussion take the higher road where folks have different beliefs but respect the other's POV as long as that POV isn't hurtful.

*i no longer contribute to said sewer but should probably stop cruising through it every so often.

I totally believe you (no teal), but can't help but think you were a little naive on this one.  In what 'Scoop universe does this not become a political discussion?!  It's kind of like if someone posted something about Indiana basketball and said, "I really didn't want this becoming a thread about Crean."  Impossible.  Hell, it's like if someone posted a thread about anything and said, "I really didn't want this becoming a thread about Chicos."
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Probably true. But, I just thought it was a news article worth sharing. And, I think, by posting it here it hasn't delved into the same gun control crap-show that it most definitely would have on the politics board.

Mr. Mohammad was put down before he could do more damage, thankfully.  A construction worker intervened which was huge.  Unfortunately the construction worker wasn't armed, got injured himself and could not stop the young man from stabbing others before he was shot by officers.  If not for the construction worker, Mr. Mohammad may have been able to wound or kill multiple students in the classroom.

A homicidal maniac attacks an innocent group of students.....none of the innocent students are killed.....the maniac is killed by an armed campus policeman.....and you are complaining that the construction worker wasn't able to open fire?

My take is that a) thank Dog the assailant wasn't carrying a gun, or students would have been killed, and b) the construction worker is a model for everyone to do the right thing and stop violence.

Yup, agreed.  Especially on point A.  That was my first thought.  Had he had a gun instead of a knife, it wouldn't have been just 5 victims and very few, if any, of the victims would be left with a future on this earth.  A horrible situation, but at least the 5 people affected still have a future and their families aren't morning their loss.

Fortunate that people didn't die.  That is my take.  Very fortunate that the construction worker got involved and was wiling to risk his life.   I'm glad the assailant didn't have a gun either, but because this happened in California and there are strict gun laws it would have been impossible for him to have a gun....so therefore that wasn't a worry.
