MILWAUKEE - Guard Jerel McNeal was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and sophomore Dominic James was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, Monday, as announced by the conference office, for their efforts in defeat of Texas Tech (87-72) and No. 9/8 Duke (73-62) in the CBE Classic, Nov. 20-21.

McNeal scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded a team-high seven assists against the Red Raiders in the semifinals of the Classic. Against the Blue Devils, the sophomore tallied 17 points and a team-best six rebounds and six steals in the championship and was named to the CBE-All Tournament Team. This is the first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor for McNeal. He garnered rookie of the week honors, once, last season.

Wow.  James wins the MVP, but only makes honor roll.  McNeal deserved it, but they probably should have shared it.

I would guess that James will be the default winner of any MVP awards this year that MU has any voice in awarding to boost the All-American / POY resume.  Not that he wasn't deserving of the CBE MVP, but any performance that is close to MVP quality will probably go to him.

On a side note, with the Big East appearing to struggle so far this year we might be getting quite a few of the "Player of the Week" and "Frosh of the Week" awards.  It was great last year seeing James on top of that list so many times!

I am glad to see McNeal got this.. I was incredibly impressed with his on court handling of the team.. like I said before, he has serious vision and knows how to run the offense like a leader..

james got the mvp because of his "takeover the game" spurt towards the end of the duke game.. he was probably the mvp of that game but I would give the nod to mcneal for the tournament mvp.  double could probably be right that james will be the default winner (except of course if it is blatantly obvious that someone else outperformed).
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.
