BE looking good in the SEC/BE games
« on: December 05, 2007, 10:25:18 PM »
WVU just put a whooping on Auburn and other BE teams looking pretty good.  Those wins will most likely help the national opinion of the BE since the SEC is pretty highly rated by a lot of casual bball followers.

Georgetown won but looked very beatable to me.  It will be interesting to see how much they can improve.

Very good in my opinion

Are there plans for the SEC/BE to turn into the ACC/Big Ten challenge?  Where all/most of the teams for the conference will play?

BE looked good yesterday with not only those wins against the SEC, but Syracuse's win over Virginia was also televised by ESPN.  By the way, now 5 of Syracuse's 8 games have been televised by ESPN.  IMO, this is an unfair recruiting advantage for the Cuse and another example of the East Coast bias exhibited by ESPN.

In their defense, 3 of those were in the NIT Tip-Off which has a contract with ESPN. Even if you include those in the analysis anyways 3 of the 5 were against BCS conference opponents (Washington, Ohio St, Virginia). The other two were against UMass and St Joes, both of those schools have at least some name recognition.

5 of Marquette's 6 games have been carried by an ESPN affiliate, and 1/2 of our games were on espn or espn2.  not much to complain about...

I agree you can't complain about us having all of our games except two on TV.  There is a big difference though between ESPN which is seen nationally and ESPN Full Court which people have to pay for.

That being said though, I have no problem with Cuse's games on ESPN. When they start playing Eastern Michigan on ESPN then I will being to complain.

Syracuse has not gotten, nor will receive, an "East Coast Bias."

Through this upcoming Saturday's games, Marquette will have had 4/7 games on ESPN or ESPN2, or 57%.

For Cuse, they will have had 5/9 on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN Classic, or 56%.  Advantage, MU.

For a total season breakdown:

Syracuse:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teamsched?teamId=183
15 games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic or CBS
9 games on ESPN Full Court or ESPNU
5 games that ARE NOT NATIONALLY TELEVISED AT ALL

Marquette:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teamsched?teamId=269
12 games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic or CBS
16 games on ESPN Full Court or ESPNU
ONLY 1 game that IS NOT NATIONALLY TELEVISED AT ALL, and this game already occurred (Utah Valley St.).  In other words, every MU game for the rest of the year is available nationally.

Advantage MU.

And they were all competitive games, which is a plus for the TV folks.
