both - both frustrating as players at times but I'm not interested in Ners-esque railings against any collegiate athlete.

Sorry to ruin the storyline

Your profile was all wrong to be Ners.    Just chain yanking.

Wojo would never be accepted in Madison.  Bo would be a poor fit at Marquette. This was like when Majerus was going for the ND job...it just wasn't going to ever work despite his basketball chops.

Doc, I agree with much of your thought. HOWEVER, the core belief that Bo would not be accepted in Milwaukee is, candidly, bunk.

If our coach takes us to the National Championship, consistently wins and recruits young men who are graduated and play pro ball, our coach would be accepted even if he had two horns, a pitchfork and a pointed tail.

Some outsiders, by the way, thought we had Satan coaching here from 1964 to 1977.

Wojo would be accepted at Madison for the same reason. If he wins, upholds the honor of the university and graduates his players, he would be accepted in Madison even if he was a politically active hard-core conservative.

I said "poor fit". Not because of basketball, but because of his inability to deal with a more critical (local and national, not just the slurpers like Schultz and Potrykus) press and alum/fans in a critical sports town, where there may not be coverage of your every word and it may not be positive. Zero percent African American graduation rates, room break ins, recruit drinking incidents?  Bo couldn't handle a Mike & Mike interview, lost top Milwaukee recruits. MU fired an assistant coach over a t-shirt, how would they feel about hiring a coach who had an illegal car loan payment scandal on his resume with the NCAA?

Bo is built for a state school in college town.  No program or coach is perfect and there will always be incidents when college aged athletes and sports mingle...but could Bo handle it all?  Rather than playing booster rounds of golf with Andy North and the locals, would he be good at making the rounds in New York, Chicago, LA? Would winning cause people to look the other way?  Or as he is finding with his recent national success, make you a bigger target?  Bo hasn't handled it well, by all measures.

Most, if not all of MU's coaches since Al, haven't either. TC may have been the closest, but he, KO and Bert went running to a gig like Bo's.  Rick, Dean-O, and the Piano Man retreated to the Hinterlands, only Rick came back. Wojo knows how to run a national program, whether Duke or USA Basketball...which is why he got the gig.
