Crean told the walk on that was recently added that he was "on a 10-day contract." I think he should let the kid stay on the team. There's not a limit on roster spots, is there? I know there's a limit on scholarships, but why not let the walk on stay on the team for the season. If he works hard and does what he can to contribute, I think he should stay on the team.

There's a great story about Dr. Langenkamp, the former team physician, and Al McGuire. He wasn't playing much going into his senior season and knew that he wanted to go to medical school so he really wanted to devote his time to his studies. He told Al, his coach at the time, that he was leaving the team to focus on school in preparation for medical school and his future as a doctor. Al told him that not only was that fine with him, but he kept him on scholarship his senior year so he wouldn't be hit with tuition once he left the team. Now that's Marquette spirit.

Based on Roskaik's report, it sounds like you're taking the comment out of context.  It sure didn't sound like it was a serious statement when it was reported as a "quip".

I would like to thank Marquette84 for indirectly pointing out that there aren't actually 10 day contracts in college sports. Without you, we'd be unable to tell a "quip" from actual fact.

Do you ever get sick of vehemently defending even the most gentle pieces of constructive criticism?

Do you ever get sick of vehemently condemning even the most gentle of quips?  I find it hysterical that the poster who most resembles a broken record is giving somebody else a hard time for pointing out to a poster that the statement was taken out of context.

You could be right. I took "quip" to mean that was his was of jokingly telling the kid his time on the team was short. I hope he let's the kid stay on the team for the season.

I would like to thank PRN for indirectly reminding us that no comment, no matter how small, light hearted, or humorous, can and will be taken out of context, blown out of proportion, and used as basis for further Crean bashing.

Do you ever get sick of finding ways to create or defend criticism over EVERYTHING Crean does?
