they blew out UMass tonight and are 5-2.
And though this won't help our RPI, I was happy to see Gonzaga knock off UConn today. And even happier to see the Big Ten, fresh off a 3-8 performance in the ACC showdown, gets another slap today when Michigan lost to Harvard.

OkSU also put a 25 point 96-71 spanking on U-Wash earlier today too..  It wasn't really close at any point after the 15 minute mark in their game..
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

last time i checked 12 points isn't a blowout

excuse me. The second half was a blowout as they outscored UMass 57-34. My bad. Fifty-seven points in a half is a butt-whipping.

IUPUI is picked to win their conference...they're a good club.

TallTitan34

Maybe we have something there.  Play the winner of all the bad conferences. Hopefully they beat up on all the teams in their conference giving them a great winning percentage helping our RPI.

And keep in mind that UMass just knocked off Syracuse at the Dome 107-100.

Very nice win for IUPUI.

Beating a BE team like Syracuse made UMASS's season----they were bound to have a let down after that!

I saw the Cuse game----amd UMASS is talented, but not as talented as Syracuse----the game though was an uncharted track meet. Boeheim should return his HOF plaque after that game as his team underachieved on both sides of the court!

Way to look at the win in a negative way Murf.  How about some props for IUPUI and that they are not a creampuff.

ecompt

I've never seen anyone do more to belittle his alma mater than you, Murff. Boeheim is one of the best coaches in the country but his team loses an early-season game and all of a sudden he should turn in his HOF plaque. MUfanatic is right--give IUPUI some props instead of making it sound like it was a letdown on UMass' part.

Murffieus

Ecompt-----did you see the Cuse/UMass game? It was a track meet----up and down the floor not much different than playground BB----if I put out such a talented team like that with such underachievement and if i were a member of the BB HOF-----I would give them my plaque back as I would be so embarrassed and ashamed of myself.

I'm not belittling anything-----after beating Cuse, U Mass was bound to have a let down----they are talented for the A10-----but not talented enough to likely play at a level like that 2 games in a row!

jutaw22mu

i love that...tommy amaker beating his old team.  michigan sucks.

But you ARE belittling IUPUI!

IUPUI beat UMass soundly.

Instead of giving props to IUPUI, you belittle their win by claiming that IUPUI's win wasn't so much their own impressive play as it was a failure of the UMass staff to properly prepare and motivate their team.

This notion that teams always suffer a letdown is ludicrous.  There are plenty of examples of teams that follow up one big win with another.

Just this year we have the following examples:
--Xavier beat Indiana, then turned around and had a blowout win over Oakland
--St. Marys beat Oregon, then suffered no letdown against Nicholls state.
--Baylor beat Notre Dame, then turned around and beat Winthrop
--New Orleans beat NC State, then beat Tulane.

There is no rule that says teams must have a letdown if they have a big win.

But to declare, as you did, that UMass was "bound to have a let down" is simply wrong.  And the fact that UMass stormed off to an 11 point halftime lead suggests that no "let down" occurred.  UMass simply ran up against a very good opponent.

SJS/84------More often than not a team well out of the rankings(UMASS) beats a BE which is in the rankings (Syracuse)----the unranked team having played over their head will come back down to earth the next game. The odds just don't favor UMASS putting back to back shooting percentage games together like 53% FGs and 45% treys !

A few exceptions would apply!

Then give me a few examples to support your "more often than not" comment.

Since I gave you four examples where that was not the case so far this season--you should easily come up with at least eight examples this year of unranked teams that beat a highly regarded Big Six conference opponent, then suffered a letdown the next game and lost to a lower level team.

TallTitan--Right on.  I've posted about this before.  I think the secret to good RPIs (well, other than winning games), is to have the so-called cupcakes that you play be the tops in their respective conferences.  Since half of your total RPI is made up of the average winning percentage of your opponent's, the more high win teams you have, the better...regardless of who they beat in those wins.  So, if you are going to play a number of buy-games, (which every high major will), it is best to do those against the best low-majors that you can.

I think Marquette has actually done a good job in recent years of bringing in teams that end up competing for their conference title--Winthrop is the best one that comes to mind (even though we lost that game).

DAtruth

IUPUI= indiana's ncc conference all stars and inner city indianapolis all stars combined..seen a kid they have coming in, LARRY STONE, fresh next yr..raw talent but can score 40 anytime he steps on a h.s. floor.."PURE SCORER" i think IUPUI will stay as a fave in that conference for yr's to come
