Now that Hoiberg has left to cach the Bulls will there be a slew of transfers from MU West? Or did they have a plan in place since it has been well known that Hoiberg was always going to go to the league?

Lastly is there anyone we would be interested in?

TAMU, Knower of Ball

My guess is that they will promote Otzelberger to head coach in the next week or so. If he gets it, I would expect minimum transfers.  If anyone did transfer, about half of their roster is good enough to play for us. Nader would be immediately eligible in theory. Niang is a stud but would have to sit out and would only have a year left. Monte Morris is a stud. Cooke is pretty good, and we might be able to find a way to make him immediately eligible since he sat out last year. Not likely but have seen it before.

Despite all this, I don't think we would go for anybody. Wojo seems pretty set on Washington and Coffey for 2016. Oversigning by 1 is cool but by 2 or more is tricky. Though I would take Monte Morris over pretty much anyone on our roster not named Henry. Nader could help immediately without affecting 2016 but I don't think Wojo would overlook the OWI on his record.

I'd be shocked if Nader transferred anywhere. Haven't talked to him in a while but he was really happy these last time we spoke. Crazier things have happened but highly unlikely

Dawson Rental

Who wouldn't be interested in Georges Niang?  Extremely doubtful that he's going anywhere.  I doubt Jameel McKay is going anywhere even if he qualifies as a grad waiver guy.  Jameel likely wouldn't have an interest in competing with Ellenson for minutes in his one year anyway.  Monte Morris would be a nice pickup, but there probably isn't room for him at the inn now that Rowsey is on board.  Those are about the only guys that could compete for MU's attention with Kyle Washington who Woj and company are recruiting hard.

It may take some getting used to, but now that Wojo has a year under his belt, roster spots at MU will be much scarcer then they have been in the past, and I believe after this year transfers will be far less common.

Hoiberg to the Bulls was a badly kept secret for some time.  T.J. Otzelberger returned this season as assistant as a head coach in waiting, although the Iowa State president might throw a wrench into that plan, preferring a bigger name guy.  If the AD gets his way and Otzelberger is in then the transition should be rather smooth, actually.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Thanks, didn't really know much about their roster/team, just that they were pretty good last year.

Forgot that with Rowsey transfer and Hauser committing we were down to one open scholarship next year.

ChitownSpaceForRent

That Rowsey transfer is still a head scratcher to me. I think Wojo had much better options then only having 1 open scholarship for Coffey and transfers

brewcity77

This is why Otzelberger was brought back. He has connections to McKay, Burton, and Noskowiak through the Wisconsin AAU programs. He was the lead recruiter on Naz Long and Matt Thomas. He was on staff when Georges Niang came to Ames.

The guy is tied into their program. He may have been gone a couple years, but I really can't see any reason they'd look elsewhere, especially as the reason he was brought back really looks to be as a safety net to this exact situation.

That is a head scratcher for me as well.  It is obvious the kid can score, proved it, but who is going to get some rebounds, need some more bulk.  Now if Washington commits, and Ellenson leaves they still will need another big.  It has been written that Coffey wants to play guard, it seems MU is stacked with 2 guards and small forwards, and not sure any of them are players
yet.

maybe we can get Burton and McKay back, ai'na?

Have any names been floated out there? I know TJ has been and is the front runnner.

Some of the usual names.  Bryce Drew, etc.  But I think they are simply throwing names out there.

My favorite two names on this list are Chris Mack and Dana Altman.  Why would you leave Xavier or Oregon for Iowa State...?  Heck, why would Archie Miller waste his time moving from Dayton to a school destined to be back in the dregs of the Big 12 in the next 2 years?

FWIW, the rumors that I've heard are that the AD wants Otz, but the President wants to make a "splash" (whatever that means).

Where did you hear that?

If that is true, either the President or Pollard screwed up when TJ was brought back to ISU.

I read it on their Cyclone Fanatic message board from one of their editors/publishers who is well connected to the program.

GGGG

Well, if that's the case, Pollard probably should have figured this out before bringing him back.  (Unless he was completely up front about it from the beginning and TJ took a chance anyway.)

You're joking, but I think Buzz would be a perfect fit at a place like Iowa St. Won't happen - he's not leaving Va Tech this soon.

Niang won't be eligible. The guy is too far off from graduating so he'd have to sit.

I don't think anyone will transfer at least of their main rotation. A bunch of upperclassman and that team will be real good.

Now when Niang, Nader, McKay and Long all graduate and Morris likely leaves for the draft. Then that team will be screwed and probably have transfers if the coach ain't workin.

Have to say the Ames folk are delusional.

Just because a hometown hero took your program from being complete garbage and got you into the tourney(not much from there). It doesn't make you a destination job.

Some of those candidates they list are hilarious.

Just like why would you leave MU for VT?  Oh wait...
