Actually I am not a Debbie Downer, but I am a contrarian. People rip Derrick, so I defend him. If people get overly excited about a certain player and I will take the other side. Wojo cut his teeth coaching players with great talent. I believe you coach talented players differently than you coach lesser talented players. Bo Ryan is a coach who excels at coaching three star players. I do not think he would be as a good coach coaching five star players. Wojo is the opposite. He probably knows how to coach a team full of McDonald All-Americans. He still needs to learn how to win with less talented players. He may learn to do that, but as of now he is a work in progress.

I'm not really sure it's fair to say Wojo can't coach a team of lesser talent up.  Wojo inherited a team that Bert recruited.  If they were Wojo's 3 stars who played to the liking of his style then Wojo may well be able to coach the hell out of them.  Wojo also was given 8 healthy scholarship players.  Any coach in the country will struggle to coach that team up.  There is only so much a coach can do when you only have 8 guys.

Whether Wojo had inherited the 3 Amigos and taken them to the Tourney or inherited what he inherited last year and finished 9th in the BE, I don't think any single person here knows whether Wojo can coach up a team of lesser talent (or succeed with great talent).

When he has a full roster and a majority of the team is his guys, we will know more about Wojo's coaching ability.

Wojo always talks about wanting to play faster. The more talented team wants to play a faster game. A less talented team wants to slow the game down. It is hard, but not impossible, for a coach with a faster pace personality to coach a lesser talented team. Also, if you want to win with a lesser talented team you need an experience team, which is not what we had last year and will have even less of this year. I actually believe we have more than the 6th best talent in the Big East. However, we might have the least experienced team in the Big East and that can be a significant problem.
