It has now been 22 years since Marquette changed its team nickname and mascot to "Golden Eagles." How 'bout we ALL live in the present and drop ALL of the repeated, grating and childish references to "Warriors?"

Let's all try showing our Marquette pride by referring to the Golden Eagles as "Golden Eagles."

Agreed?

Great!

I think it worth noting that all the current students were born after the name change from Warriors to Golden Eagles. As an old fart I still am less than pleased by the change but have long accepted that there are many more important thing in life than something so trivial.
Yet, have written that I fully expect the "Warrior" chant/cheers will continue...

Was this supposed to be in teal?

It's warrior's,  it'll always be warrior's

I don't do "Warriors" and I find the whole "teal" thing really embarrassing.

Teal? That is funny.

And to ronald dragon: You probably want to re-study the rules for capitalization and for using an apostrophe.

MarquetteDano

I thought I heard just last season "Let's Go Warriors" from the student section.  Am I crazy?

If so, looks like some of the students agree with us older folk.

This meme unexpectedly lost a nail-biter in the first round.  I don't think there's anything there.

Sorry, MU Avenue.

🏀

What if they used Joan of Arc as a logo with the Warrior nickname?

Childish and grating? Now that is very PC. You show your pride your way. Warriors forever, with Golden Avalanche as the backup.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Kids these days and their ignorance of proper capitalization and apostrophe use! Get off my lawn!

It will always be Warriors for me.  I wear my shirt proudly.  Wish the new administration would change the name back.

Your math is wrong. It has not been that long.

Also, eff the chicken. We are the Warriors.

I don't think I like the cut of your jib, comrade.

Go Warriors.

Marquette University decided in October 1993 -- almost 22 years ago -- to abolish the Warriors nickname.

The university then held a contest to arrive at a new nickname. Golden Eagles was chosen from more than 1,500 entries, outdistancing Lightning, and has been Marquette's team nickname since the start of the 1994-95 school year.

I was there, kiddo. You said, "It has now been 22 years since Marquette changed its team nickname and mascot to "Golden Eagles."" The start of the 1994-95 school year was August 1994. It's currently May 2015. You're wrong on the basic math and you're wrong on your whining.

If you need to make this about winning or losing, I guess I have won. The nickname is "Golden Eagles." Check your program.

Questions for those here who are so argumentative and defensive on this topic: You all went to Marquette? When? And why so unwilling to consider other viewpoints?

tower912

The name isn't changing back.   I accept that.   However, MU was the Warriors when I attended and achieved the greatest success as the Warriors.    So I always think 'Warriors' first and then translate to Golden Eagles or just 'Marquette'.

Who cares? It's Golden Eagles now.

If the old farts wanna keep calling us the Warriors, let them.

Warriors is a better nickname, but it ain't coming back.

I'm fine with it.  Just that we seem to be more of the nothings, unless using a lame logo on kid's t-shirts.  If they actually used the name, maybe it would get somewhere.  Hiding it in shame is even worse than forcing it on people.  Take the name and own it.  Not like there are ten other high level schools with the same name like Wildcats or Bulldogs, just three forgettable ones.  And just use an image instead of a cartoon logo to actually show the beast.
