Jerel McNeal Ejected From Tonight's Game

Clerical error: Already shorthanded because of multiple injuries, the Suns played the final three quarters of Sunday's game with just eight players after guard Jerel McNeal was disqualified for not being on the active roster.

McNeal had been on a 10-day contract that expired Saturday. He was signed to a contract for the remainder of the season Saturday, but the league did not update the Suns roster with McNeal included, so when coach Jeff Hornacek circled his active players before the game McNeal's name was not included.

Unaware that McNeal was ineligible, Hornacek subbed him into the game with 2:24 left in the first. The official scorer mistakenly allowed him to enter the game and he finished the quarter.

Between periods the mistake was uncovered and the Spurs were awarded a technical foul shot, which Green made.

So McNeal played 2 1/2 minutes in an NBA game, was not eligible to do so, was thrown out of the game and his appearance will be wiped from the official records.

You cannot make this up!

Since signing a 10-day contact.  McNeal has appeared in four games, played a total of 19 minutes and scored 2 points.

Tonight's two minutes, before he was tossed for not being on the roster, was the start of the fifth game he was to play in.
