Oklahoma State basketball: Sources say OSU considering buyout of men's basketball coach Travis Ford
http://newsok.com/article/5405976

The cost of firing Ford: at least $9.6 million – the full remainder owed from a 10-year contract extension given to the coach in September of 2009.
by John Helsley Published: March 30, 2015

STILLWATER — Always a source of discussion and debate outside the program, Travis Ford's job status has become an issue inside at Oklahoma State.

Multiple sources have told The Oklahoman that OSU is considering a buyout of the basketball coach's rich contract. Key word: considering.

The cost of firing Ford: at least $9.6 million – the full remainder owed from a 10-year contract extension given to the coach in September of 2009. It's a sizable sum that serves as a deterrent to making a change, considering the school would then have to pay Ford's replacement. And with the average Big 12 basketball coaching salary – among public schools – at $2.6 million, OSU could have as much as $5 million tied up in its basketball position next year and throughout the terms of Ford's deal, which runs through 2019.

Consider, too, that athletic director Mike Holder is committed to building a new baseball stadium, with plans well underway on that project.

Still, more than a week after the Cowboys' season ended with a loss in an NCAA Tournament opener for the third straight year, a movement among boosters pushing for a change has Holder at least examining the possibility, according to the sources.

Outside money might be necessary to prompt Ford's dismissal – and may, according to sources, be accumulating among donors to at least assist in a potential buyout. It is believed that OSU would remain responsible for the majority of what is owed Ford.

Holder has not responded to requests for comment. And his stance historically has been that he won't discuss personnel matters. Efforts to reach Ford also failed.

Not sure he would've been such a hot name had he stayed given that we would've been coming off two missed NCAAs in a row.

Hill, Shayok and Mayo stay.  Stj and JJJ leave.  Assume a Juco and/or grad transfer.

Are we better?

Pierce and Harris come and help on the inside.  Shayok and Anderson split minutes.  Most likely, no Carlino.  Mayo, Hill and Duane on the perimeter.  Yes, MU is better, but not making the NCAA tournament type better.  Maybe NIT.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Shayok is going to be a player. It's no wonder that Wojo went after him harder than any of the other guys despite being the least heralded player in the class (besides Pierce, but Pierce filled a bigger need). The guy knows how to evaluate talent.

Assuming you meant Shayok?

He's gonna be a pro, especially if his jumper develops. Very smart player, skilled, with good size and athleticism. Wojo wanted him badly.

Looks like a whole lotta nothing to me.  Coaches of recruits and recruits themselves always say "I have an offer from X, Y, and Z" when really maybe only X's offer is a straight up "We want you here" while Y and Z may be "We want you if player A doesn't commit" or "We want you if player B declares for the NBA draft."  So maybe he received word that Indiana was interested and that was an "offer."  Not to mention I doubt Marquette's rushing to the media to let everyone know, hey, our player was released from his NLI, have at him!

So they fired him and then brought him back?

Should Oklahoma State be kicked out of the Big 12?

Well to be fair, Todd doesn't really fit Jesus' scheme on offense.

Jesus' team consists of the full 13 scholarship players, though.

Nah, he usually only fills 12. Gotta be ready for that impact transfer.
