So do you guys think he's a 4 at the next level?  Would a guy like this back up Henry?  How is his skill set different than Matt's or are they interchangeable?

Thoughts based on a few minutes of video...

Edwards: I think he's definitely a 5. Runs the floor well, but his strength is all down low. At a quick glance, I think he has a bigger wingspan than Matt and uses it really well when it comes to pulling in rebounds and blocking shots. Despite being able to move well, his lack of a jumper just doesn't translate to playing the 4 at this level.

Heldt: Matt can hit the midrange and even extend out to three. I could see him developing into one of those classic Bo Ryan-type bigs that have frustrated us so much over the years. Not as quick or athletic as Edwards.

Heldt has said in the past he would be open to a redshirt under the right circumstances, this might be it. Edwards looks like his body is a bit more college-ready than Heldt, though he needs to add bulk.

Long term, they might be able to co-exist in the right system. Heldt being the face-up 4, Edwards being the true 5 down low, giving a lot of length and rebounding on defense.

If you're talking about Matt, I do think he could be that type of player. The Kaminsky, Berggren, Leuer type that gives so many teams matchup problems.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

With Steve leaving a year early, we need another big for next year.  What would be better than replacing him with someone who will potentially be around for four years?

Xavier always seems to have at least four bigs on their roster.

Hopefully, having a HC who has experience handling bigs at Duke and USA Basketball will be a big advantage.

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Michael Edwards is the biggest late bloomer recruiting story of the spring. http://bit.ly/1OzzRS0

Four new offers for Michael Edwards

There is no hotter prospect than Michael Edwards. The late bloomer from Westland (Mich.) John Glenn High School picked up four offers today per numerous reports.

Auburn, Marquette, Pittsburgh and SMU offered the 6-10 center.

Georgia, Kansas State and Nebraska have also recently offered Edwards.

Among those seven, I like our chances.  I've got a feeling this ain't the end though.

Does anyone know when Edwards will decide/committ?

Nothing public yet. My guess is Edwards himself probably doesn't even know. With the late interest he is garnering, I can easily see him holding off to maximize the possible offers he gets. The signing period opens again on April 15 and closes May 20, so I would say conservatively we should know in the next 2 months.

Meyer has him going to MI as of noon today

I work with a guy who is in the know on Michigan recruiting.  He thinks Edwards to Michigan is just a matter of time.

Definitely shows numerous basketball skills. Would like to see what he can do when guarded.

Didn't see any good defensive play against him so it's kinda hard to judge.

Stretchdeltsig

Darn.  Was getting excited about him joining us.  If he's gone to MI Lee's dissolve the thread.

Maybe he is confused and is thinking of Marquette MI.

77ncaachamps

That last video...doesn't it look like he's ice skating all over the place?

He does shoot the ball low however and appears to really lack the coordination skills of a 4-5*.

But he is one of those bigs who will probably be a stud junior/senior.

Often times, bigs around this late get over recruited simply because they're big. Mike Edwards looks to be a legitimate late bloomer.

Duke and UCLA reportedly showing interest.

I'm sure that Coach K is just making contact to talk up Wojo.

That and doing some fishing, duh.

Obligatory "this will be a true test for whether Wojo will ever be a good recruiter as this is the most important recruit he will get so far" post.
