I can vouch for the civil materials lab as I am taking that class now.  Absolutely horrible and the basement is poorly laid out for any lab space.  It's barely capable of being used for storage, let alone an actual lab space.

The 1212 building is Johnston Hall, correct?

What?!? No! Johnston Hall is Johnston Hall. The 1212 Building is across the street.

tho' some of the rooms there are quite nasty, they did a good job redoing the audio labs and staff production/engineering

Next to Marquette Hall and Gesu (literally), Johnston Hall is the nicest and most recognizable building on campus.

1212 is a dump and should probably be torn down. I can't believe they paid an architect to design it.

We didn't.  The 1212 building was not originally part of MU's campus.  In fact there were dental offices there decades ago.  MU bought the building along with the one that used to have Grebe's, etc....remember the old University Store....that was all non-MU stuff which MU then bought.

That explains it. What a dump.

And yes, I do remember the "U Store." They had some really, really bad merchandise for sale there.

I worked at the 1212 building for 2 semesters.  Not 1 day went by where I didn't fall asleep doing what I did.  Me and my friend actually had a bet to see how many days in a row we could stay awake during our time there.  She won:  2 days.

I'm not sure I'd call Johnston the third "nicest" building on campus, as much of the interior definitely shows its age. In terms of exterior architecture and charm, however, I'll give you fourth nicest.

Let's give the St. Joan of Arc Chapel the props it deserves, eh?

I stand corrected!!

They still hang a large We Are Marquette banner on the east side of the building when MU is in the NCAA Tournament.

shaquilvaine

clearly that picture is of a coed outside the 1212 building before she found the McCormick ice cream machines. It would be interesting to see a before and after freshman year picture.  Either that, or she is visiting campus.    ;D

🏀

Pretty sure Cobeen has an ice cream machine now too.

Canned Goods n Ammo

Maybe MU pulled a UW and super-imposed a good looking co-ed into the picture.

;)

while nothing in that picture looks too shabby, I do remember the building now. It used to house the U-Store, Grebe's Bakery, and a religious book store. It will not be missed.

I would like to point out the fact that the picture is most likely of a co-ed who probably did already find the ice cream machine in one of the buildings.  It appears she has put on some weight since arriving....sorry if she or anyone she knows posts on this board...a little bit of a muffin top going...

but i will miss the giant 'WE ARE MARQUETTE' banner...where will they put it now?!

at MUSG, we have been told about big changes coming to campus.  first the new 1212 building in additional to the new engineering building and the new law school are the big projects to focus on.  they also bought the marquette apartments on n 17th streets, above sweeneys, it is becoming a sophomore dorm in 2009

What's Sweeney's? I can't envision this building.

Sweeney's is the bookstore that competes with Book Marq, the building also has ziggies, cousins, campus dollar and Dany's in it.

its on the corner of 17th and wisconsin.  cousins, campus dollar, and starbucks is actually a separate building and their leases will continue.

There's another banner that they hang on the Hegerty Museum (so you can see it from the MU interchange).  They might be able to hang the 1212 banner on the west side of Straz Tower.

I like it when they light up all the towers in MU Hall and Raynor with blue and gold too.

TallTitan34

A banner goes up on the entrance of the union as well.

If so, thank God. I spent a semester in Humphrey (Fall 05) and I think that housing right now is elderly-specific or something. Like low rent apartments targeted towards elderly people. I know it sounds petty and there are bigger issues at stake, but damn, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT at like 3AM there would be ambulances and fire trucks out in front there right in front of my window. Made it really difficult to get a decent night's sleep.

The university has also bought the Newbridge building across the street from the AL (next to Hegs). That craphole was my residence my senior year. Its demise I'm sure saddens MUfan12. Lotta history in that apartment. While Beer Olympics and pre-game Marquette shots dominated, I think the best part was when after graduation and packing up the car, my folks said they would be making a pit stop at the Cheese castle for a bathroom break. I offered the bathroom in my apartment (which may have been cleaned twice since we moved in), and my offer was flatly rejected.

Ahhh.... the good old days of buying beer at Dany's. I still remember reading about Dukiets hiring hungover(Summerfest) at Hardees on the corner. We were excited but then........

Why does that post make me want to go to the bathroom?
