Because of his style and confidence, Pieper got a bad rap while at MU. He was actually a really nice and normal dude.

He could flat out ball. Great, great player.

he was fun to watch at MU....i remember watching him come off screens and if the player guarding him had his hands on him he would literally wack the guys arm.  a smart way to put pressure on the refs.  he was a tough nosed player.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

My hometown HS nearly hired Gene Pieper to be the boys HS coach back in 1984 but Gene finished as the runner up.  Lots of handwringing in town after Anthony did what he did.  Went from 1983 to 2011 with 0 trips to State.  Won D-4 in 2011 two or three years after the other coach was replaced.

I was a huge fan of his.  And he was as tough as they come.  He had a very solid MU career.

Warrior of Law

One of my favorites of all time. Played with KO on the Sweet 16 team and led the Deane teams with a nice NIT run and return to NCAA. Great MU career and an exceptional HS career.

Pieper was always "smooth as ice" when he shot the ball.

GOO

My interactions with him were always very positive.

Saw him out a few times in Chicago and he took the time to talk Marquette etc.  A nice guy.
