Started last year when Jaymeel McKay left the week after October Madness.  Watching him play for ISU now and it's clear he would have been a real difference maker for us.  With him last year we would have been an NIT team for sure, maybe an NCAA bubble team.

With him this year, we would have won some of the close games and would not be in the cellar, and this board would not be so suicidal.  He is also close to Burton (which is partly why he chose ISU) and he might still be on this team.

Thoughts?

1) Yes, McKay would deifnitely have been an impact guy.  He's good.
2) Glad Burton's gone, I don't want guys who have no time for any semblance of team D, or passing the ball every now and then.

My thoughts... This is stupid. The guy quit after three practices in part because the former coach offended him.

He's gone. Rehashing it accomplishes nothing.

I thought it started when the Japanese invaded Poland?

It's funny, go back and read the posts here when McKay left and how many folks said it was no big deal.

Just like people saying not having Carlino for the last few games may have been no big deal, aina?

I'd love to see who those people were.  Statements of fact or rhetorical questions?  You can tell the difference if it has one of these "?" in the sentence.

Losing McKay was a big deal IMO. Was very disappointed in how the whole thing played out. Do agree Vander turning pro changed things quite a bit. We were early top ten team preseason with Blue and McKay on board last year and things turned ugly quickly.

WayOfTheWarrior

On top of Vander and McKay, who I was really excited about last year, we lost Mayo, Deonte, and now Nosk, all of whom I think would have had a positive impact (either large or small).

I'm looking forward to next year where I hope all of this "going pro" or transferring drama is done and we can count on have a committed core of guys for Wojo to build on. Let's hope for the best, fingers crossed.

Mayo was upsetting the team's chemistry before school started. He's been suspended numerous times and showed no signs of changing. The kid has some talent, but it's a near miracle Buzz managed to keep him here and eligible for 3 years. He would have had an impact had he stayed but I'm not sure out would have been positive.

Burton I agree with. Wish he'd stayed, but he wanted to get away.

Noskowiak, well I guess we'll see. There's a lot of mud in the water with him. Hard to know what's true and what isn't. Truly wish him the best, but I do feel there was some mutual feelings in the decommit.

Completely agree

Then take it another step back.   When McKay committed, most people did not expect Otule back for a 6th year.  Otule came back.   Also, Buzz had one magic half with Otule and Gardner on the floor at the same time and attempted to make an offense of it.    So, if McKay's leaving was the first domino, IMO the impetus of the domino was Otule sticking around and beating Syracuse at home.

Actually, if you believe any of McKay's tweets (especially after Buzz left in the spring), he left because after a few months with Buzz he concluded he was a looney tunes (my description).  It had nothing to do with Otule staying/going.

What's the point of a rhetorical question if you don't believe there may be some truth to it? That's odd. Would you have posed the rhetorical question had, say, Dwyane Wade gone down for 4 games in 2003? Of course not.

I agree with this. He had a problem dealing with Buzz's peccadillos and given he only had two years left, he did not have the luxury of letting things play out over time.

Are you now comparing Dwyane Wade with Matt Carlino and comparing a hypothetical injury situation?  It's in a form of a question, so I assume it is rhetorical....but you must "believe there may be some truth to it".

;)

Again, I like MC, think he is a quality player.  We stand around too much, defer too much, and let him do too much at the end of games and end of shot clock.  We are learning some things THIS year due to this injury.  I look forward to him coming back.

No, I was asking if you would've done the same thing had Wade gone down. I didn't compare them at all. You really didn't understand that question?

That's my point.  Wade isn't in the same universe as MC, so I would not have posted the same thing.

Right, but Car3no is clearly our best player and we're clearly a much better team with him than without him.
