Throw out the 2 and 4 conference record.  Throw out the atrocious quality of basketball in the big east and all of college basketball this year.  In terms of pure viewing excitement, close games and nail biting final minutes this to date has been one of the most exciting seasons.  The big east is also having a great year.  Look at those conference standings.  With the exception of Creighton, any and every team has a realistic shot to not only win the big east tournament but also grab a ncaa at large bid.  Say what you want to about a 10 team basketball only conference, but it has been the most exciting conference to watch this year by a long shot.

I thought MU was more exciting when we were winning most of these nail biters.

I would say that was more exhiliarating than exciting

I thought the 09-10 season was the most exciting.  Lots of close games.  I believe we won 3 ot games in a row that year.

Glad you posted this. I was thinking the same thing. Watching Butler Creighton and it is a helluva college basketball game. We will win one of our close ones soon. Today was disappointing but remember we were playing on the road in MSG, against a team that had been in the top 25 earlier in the year , that has incredible athleticism and it came down to the last shot.

I love our conference. The 10 team double round robing is a great format. Can't wait till we get St. Johns at home.

Not sure I agree Marquette has any shot of winning the Big East Tournament. They will have to play at least 3 games in a row to do so and they have no depth to manage that.

It'd take another +30 effort from Carlino, another +30 effort from Duane, another ASU style game from Fisher and JJJ, Sandy playing like he did against Providence and tonight's performance from Steve. Then we could totally do it! Heck we could make the Final Four if they played like that
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

I thought they were way more exciting when they were being played in front of packed stadiums on espn instead of 4,000 people and the 80,000 on fox sports and I was watching a low scoring game due to strong and physical defense by the #10 and #15 in the nation, not due to a lack of being able to shoot.

Gag me, please. This is one of the most absurd posts I have ever read.

Anything to do with the 1977 NCAA Tournament blows this season away.

Anything to do with the 1976 season blows this one away.

All of seasons between 2010 and 2013 blow this one away. We were exciting and building toward something those seasons.

Let's deal with this season. Some of us, me included, had unrealistic expectations for a team with eight, mostly young players. When your senior leadership comes from a one-year "rent-a-player," you should know better. When your coach is a first-year coach who has never before been a head coach, you should know better (even if he did come from Duke). When your 7' center can't play until Christmas break, you should know better.

I follow them. I watch them and I go the BC. They're entertaining, yes. As a basketball team, they're immature. They are losing close games because they and their coach are learning. If they were seniors, some of these close losses probably would be wins.

We have great players coming in next year. We'll have 10 to 12 players on the roster next year and if we can sustain our recruiting edge in 2016-2017, we'll have something very special.

As a final thought, don't forget that Al McGuire's first year, 1964-1965, was a lost cause. The season was entertaining, yes, and Al breathed some life into the team, but boy we were not what was to be. It took two to three years. Buzz didn't leave the cupboard as bare as Eddie Hickey did, but I can't sit here and honestly say Wojo inherited a tournament-ready team.

GGGG

There isn't a chance I would watch a Marquette game this year if I weren't a Marquette fan.  It isn't exciting.  It is an excruciating display of bad basketball.  Give me the E8 year with the regular season home wins v. UW and four ranked Big East teams, two thrilling NCAA wins in Louisville, and a S16 crushing of the regular season and tournament ACC champions.

This season sucks in comparison.

Al's first TWO seasons sucked too. Let's see what Wojo can do in year 3.

That's kinda a lot to "throw out."

Yes, it does.  But, the real enjoyment this season (frustrating as it can be at times) is watching the development of the frosh and sophs.

Which is probably why I'm not getting all flipped out about losing.  This season was never about making the NCAAs.  It was about development.

I must agree. I thought both teams last night were abysmal. Same goes for the Xavier, Georgetown, Creighton, Providence and DePaul games. Can't remember the others. I cannot recall a worse Xavier team and their play in the first half was almost shockingly bad.

I've never felt less compelled to watch a team than this one.  I still turn on the games, and attend the home games, but if my halftime chats last a little into the 2nd half, no big deal.

This team is sloppy and offensively challenged, that doesn't exactly hit the "exciting" button for me.

Uhhh...beg to differ. The only "dudes" that get excited seeing Hillary naked are Donna Shalala and Janet Reno. We all know that Bill doesn't. Now Bill would woof around Kate all day if she allowed him to.

No way.

This is just a crappier version of 09-10 so far.

That team had no expectations but they at least turn into road warriors and started completing the close games.

Granted...they started 2-5 so its not panic time yet!!!

I get what you mean in regards to we have no clue what could happen during any game.

But to be honest, I think I am learning that I really do not enjoy college basketball, and I just like watching Marquette.  I could watch an NBA game where two teams like OKC and Houston (No Rooting Interest) are playing and watch the whole thing, but if you told me to watch a Iowa VS Ohio State game or even a Kentucky vs Florida game I probably would just keep flipping channels
