Wojo interview quote... "based on the way he practiced".

No injury.

Not grades.

I guess that's good news.
"The meaning of life isn't gnashing our bicuspids over what comes after death but tasting the tiny moments that come before it."

Niv Berkowitz

WOJO just said. He practiced bad and wasn't ready to play. "If you don't bring it everyday in practice, I don't have confidence putting you in on the road in the Big East."

JTBMU7

wojo just said on the post game that JJJ didnt play because he didnt practice well. acknowledged that it limited the team but that he wouldnt compromise standards for that...

Niv Berkowitz

Also said that "yes, even if that limits us to 7 for the game."

I hope it's not grades.  He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  What if he's out for the semester?

Impossible. School started Monday.  There are no grades.

Alternatively, an unexcused absence from class....... I'm not saying anything but that could get a kid nailed to the bench as a lesson.

Edit.  Glad Wojo said something.

Fair enough.  That actually makes it sound like he was late for practice, or some other practice transgression.  It's not like you just show up one day and the coach goes "wow, you're a bad practice player, you're gonna' get a DNP"

JJJ will be our next transfer. Said it a couple months ago and I'll say it again.

C'mon man. If you want to say "I hope its not grades" that's fine. Why do you have to insult the kid? How could you possibly know anything about the kids intelligence?

Then so be it, kid's got a golden opportunity in front of him.

WarriorHal

Amazing. Wojo basically admitted he gave the game away. Punish the team because one guy didn't practice well. Can't win with only seven players, especially against a good team on the road.

Mike Broeker tweeted at the end of the first semester that the basketball team had their highest team GPA in over a decade. Highly unlikely grades will be an issue with Wojo as coach, it is just not acceptable to this program under his leadership.

If he transfers because the coach sits him for not practicing well, then good riddance.

I guess its nice to see Wojo has standards

But a complete DNP because of a bad practice??? That could have likely been the reason we lost?

I mean why not give him a couple minute burst and see if he's truly in a "bad" spell or if that practice was a fluke.

Good for Wojo, it takes stones to hold to a punishment in a tight game. Hopefully this shows his resolve and inspires JjJ to bring it every day. I hope his teammates also get on him for letting the team down.

I have my doubts that it was truly one bad practice.

That's how you become a losing team long term.  It's one freakin' game.  Bigger life lessons to be taught.

I don't think this was a "he was playing bad in practice" situation. I think this was an "he isn't putting in any effort into practice" or "not showing up to practice" type situation.

Fine. This is the second straight year he's put himself in the doghouse and let down his teammates. And Wojo is the second straight coach to bench him for his attitude. He's got a ton of talent but if he can't get his stuff together we won't miss him.

Can the teammates really do that though?

Wouldn't he be able to do the same thing the next time Duane plays "bad" in a game and goes 1-10 from the floor?

The words Wojo chose were he played bad. Not that he didn't try or was late or wouldn't listen. He just didn't practice well.

We would hve intersquad wars if that happened.

This is what I am hoping it was(not hoping in that I want it to happen but in terms of the situation).

But I feel Wojo should say it like that then because it makes way more sense

And then your comment about the players should get on him, would work a lot better as well.

So is it his attitude or his practice habits?

jsglow

I'm not going to parse Wojo's words.  I'll assume a 'bad practice' is code for something other than 1-10 in Kasten yesterday.

Interesting choice to quote Lombardi.  He also said this:  "Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect."

If any coach understood how important bringing it in practice was, it was Lombardi.
