Creighton thoughts
« on: January 14, 2015, 10:06:21 PM »
1. No production from Fischer, Taylor and Anderson.   Turnover machines tonight.
2.  Fell in love with the 3 early and struggled to find an offensive rhythm the rest of the game.
3.  Not a ton of energy, except when in the 1-3-1.
4.  At some point, some home cooking officiating would be nice.  Couldn't get the 50-50 calls.
5.  1-3-1 is only effective in short bursts.
6.  Duane was the only one who wanted the ball in the second half.
7.  Must make free throws.   Can't even blame Juan or Derrick tonight.
8.  But one miracle make and all is forgiven.
9.  Didn't deserve it, but take it and run.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Big problems in this game.

We gave up 11 offensive rebounds.
We committed 15 TOs.

That led to them having taken 12 more shots than us.

... and just about every game is we can't score from the perimeter.

Well, I like wins.

But I will say. If we play anything close to the way we did tonight on Saturday...Xavier beats us by 25 and that may be generous.

Rust...this team has had a somewhat odd schedule and needs to find a rhythm. These staggered games don't help. Add the fact that Creighton drew us into a shooting contest and it was going to be ugly.

We won...all good as far as I'm concerned.

Only two players scoring in the second half, really????

Fischer is seven foot, shooting 80% and only takes three shots.

Duane is very quick, not afraid to shoot out of slump, and will improve next year to be dangerous.  Russ Smith like danger.

6.  No (but close).  Carlino also wanted the ball.  He always wants the ball.

Can add JJ to that mix tonight.  Awful games all around.

There are times like tonight when you just let him chuck.  Everything else was a messy mess.

I said I would judge success for this team based on progress. I am afraid if there has been progress I have missed it. Please help me see the improvement in this team. I would feel much better if we played well and lost to a good team then watch us play a horrible team and win by one. Where is the improvement? There must be something besides Derrick's two 3's.

Its been proven to you multiple times that both Duane and Johnson shoot at a higher and more inconsistent rate than Carlino. Carlino also leads the team in assists. Don't know too many chuckers who do that.

For as bad a stretch as he's had over the last month, Duane's line was improvement.

No production from Juan but he did grab 9 big boards for us.

Providence and Georgetown are two top half defenses in the BEast. Depaul and Creighton are the two worst defenses in the BEast. Why we looked decent against the first two and awful against the second two is a mystery to me.

I'd say Duane being one of the only guys wanting the ball in the second half was big for development.

Two of our most important players(derrick and Juan) were terrible tonight and won't be here next year so it was good to see one of the young guys step up. Of course the other guy who stepped up even bigger won't be either though.

This is just dumb. We played poorly in stretches tonight, but we won. What are you complaining about? We played a much better game against Georgetown and lost. This "thing" where players are going to "develop" and miraculously improve from game to game is nonsense. We are a very flawed and short handed team.

Stop complaining about how we won a game. We are not tournament material and you can thank the previous regime for that. Get over it.

Against Georgetown, I thought we played pretty well but we were just a few players short.  Today, I thought we were awful and while its fun to win, its hard to believe in this team. There's just not enough scoring to compete.  Overall, todays game showed two bottom feeders which is what I think it was.

Bullsh*t. Marquette is not a "bottom feeder." That's ridiculous.

Couple issues pertaining to Luke.

1. He scored the first basket of the game on the 1st possession of the game. He had 2 shots the rest of the game....2.

2. He hasn't had more than 3 boards in a BE game yet.

We are still infinitely better with him on the floor...but those things above can't happen.
