Lost in so much of the usual Derrick bashing has been the dismal offense from Taylor. I have never seen a 6'7" guy get so many shots blocked. 1-7 from the field. This team is so thin and he has got to figure out how to score, especially the bunnies he bricks.

BCHoopster

No explosion left in his knee and not smart enough to figure how to get other types of shots, to bad

warriorfan 14

did have 7 boards, but yes he can't finish strong at all. if he doesn't improve he'll probably only see spot minutes next year

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Dr. Blackheart

The knock on Steve in high school was he tended to hang out on the perimeter for catch and shoots. He doesn't have Parker and Nunn on this team and his role is as a post up.

chapman

He's Jamil Wilson soft.  If he's the 240 he's listed at he should be bowling over guys and breaking some bones.

His explosiveness was a hallmark of his early play.  Sure seems like that is missing now.

Steve Taylor Jr.'s New Year's resolution....

  • I will focus on scoring more
  • I will be a better rebounder
  • I will play hard (and smart) and give 110% all the time
  • I will play better defense
  • Increase my vertical beyond 3 inches  ;)
  • What else?...

Yes.  Really struggles elevating going to the hoop now.  Needs to re-invent himself.

Steve needs to learn the baby hook, and some additional post moves.  Maybe working against Luke will help, but it doesn't seem to have thus far.

We definitely need to upgrade the talent. Steve it's just not that good.  He shoots a horrible % for a big guy and is not great defensively.

He's been working against Luke for a year now, and both CO and Davante before that. His decline is reminiscent of Joe Fulce, who was never the same after his injuries. He is what he odds. A good strong rebounder, adequate shooter, but without the athleticism to have much post presence.

Stretchdeltsig

Steve is not the player he was two years ago.  It seems that he lost his jumping aability and scoring touch.  Last year's injury must have been much more serious than we thought.

GGGG

I think we are mis-remembering him from two years ago.  I don't recall the explosive, high flying player we are suggesting he was.  He was a guy who came in, knocked down some shots and got some rebounds on an E8 team where he was hardly the focal point of the defense.

I think Blackheart is spot on here. He just doesn't have the game to do what is asked of him.  He's a guy who prefers to play facing the basket and shooting the ball.

You may be right on this Sultan. But he was rated the best senior in Illinois when he matriculated, and he is 6'7", so we should expect him to make at least half of the bunnies that he is missing. If he prefers to play facing the basket, then he can stand in line with the rest of the guys we have that do that.

Is he close to graduating? If so, it might not be a bad idea for him to play his last year at a mid-major. Don't think he can hack it at this level. Lost on offense, lost on defense.

Finish at the rim by stuffing the ball through the hoop and not trying to kiss it off the glass.

Y'all talkin' 'bout Tequila or Schnapps shots? I'm figurin' Steve's pretty good at makin' those, aina?

Stop taking that one dribble every time he gets a pass
Avoid having the ball at or below the waist when attacking the basket where guards can steal it

I think if he stays healthy and plays in the game  at the same time as Luke he will contribute. He does seem to prefer facing the basket and he will get some kick outs that way.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

I will be intrigued to see what Taylor's role will be next season. With Henry, Luke, and Heldt already committed, and three open scholarships, Steve might find himself in a crowded situation. He is being given playing time this season but will need to earn it the next.

I've been wondering the same. I think a lot will depend on what happens with the open scholarships. If we add another big like Akoy Agau that could definitely leave Steve in a tough spot for minutes. Three scholarships leaves a lot up in the air.

ST Jr. season thusfar has been a huge dissapointment....

Can't rebound, block shots or score inside... We clearly see why Bert had him on the bench last year...

He had a few solid rebounds and a key putback today. But, just not enough production from him. He may be relegated to number 8 if Sandy really develops.
