I know I was challenged for saying Savon Goodman would make the NBA in my preview of the Arizona State game. Obviously we will not know if I am right for a couple of years, but I did want to give a late kudos for our defense on him in that game. He had a dominant minute at the end of the game, but since then he has hit 17-23 from the floor in two games, for 46 points, 23 rebounds and 5 steals. I have matched every single player in the Chicago Sun-Times injury report and Jeff Goodman's transfer list, and the only other mid-season transfer anywhere close to the two players who debuted that game is Jesse Morgan who arrived at Temple in time to roast Kansas. Here is an edited paragraph I will have in my Breitbart Sports story (which should run with Luke's photo):

Ironically two of the three impact transfers faced off in their first game back. In the photo, Marquette's Luke Fischer (7.06 Value Add per game) prepares to score over Arizona State's excellent center Eric Jacobsen. In his first two games, Fischer hit an incredible 17 of 19 shots for 41 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked 6 blocks. Savon Goodman (5.08 Value Add per game), fouled out in his debut in that same game, but in his second and third game he has lit it up for 46 points on 17 of 23 shooting to go with 23 rebounds and five steals. Jesse Morgan, the second ranked transfer, helped Temple stun Kansas 77-52 in just his second game - hitting 5 of 10 shots including three 3-pointers and dishing out three assists to his new teammates. Only two other mid-season pickups have been worth more than a point a game since returning:

Midseason Transfer   Team   Ht   Database   Per Game Value Add   Proj Rnk
40 Fischer, Luke   Marquette   6' 11"   1.92   7.06   59
3 Morgan, Jesse   Temple   6'5"   1.00   6.00   111
11 Goodman, Savon   Arizona St.   6' 6"   1.27   5.08   184
0 Russell, DeWayne   Grand Canyon   5' 11"   1.21   3.62   388
10 Worsham, Raeford   Jackson St.   6' 4"   1.04   2.70   628

Thanks, maybe the second most important stat line behind Fischer's big night was who drew the quick fouls on Goodman to limit him to just a few minutes that night! Here is who drew the fouls.

Derrick Wilson 2
Duane Wilson 1
Fischer 1
Carlino 1

Nicely done.

One tiny bit of constructive criticism from the nitpicker in me: "Coincidentally" would have been a better word than "Ironically." There was no irony in the Fischer-Goodman situation at all.

I challenged you for saying he was a "probable" NBA player. I said "possible" was much more accurate. Just cleaning up the language.

Savon also scored at a higher rate against us than in the two games where he combined for 46 points. For that you praised our defense on him.

MU82 and Brandx - both valid criticisms, thanks. On the last one I should have praised MU for drawing the fouls on him, because Brandx is right that we didn't really seem to stop him at all, particularly on that one master dunk.

Great feedback, and thanks for the feedback.

Quite the nit pick there. He scored his 7 points in garbage time before fouling out.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

Cuz that was about the only time he played in a blowout game. He played only 5 minutes in the 1st 3/4 (31 minutes) of the game despite only 2 fouls.

Thanks! I'm just thrilled Marquette basketball is actually.worth talking about now. I thought wed all just be being polite and trying to be nice to the seniors to let them finish up and move on for the big class. But I appreciate the guts it took to bear down and pull out the GA tech and Tennessee games so wed have enough wins to make Luke's arrival meaningful!

I don't know, I was pretty nervous on how quickly they were scoring until he fouled out.

Goodman not a great game last time out; tonight at Arizona, ASU getting pummeled. Savon 2p (0-2 FG), 2 turnovers, 4 fouls , 1 reb (def).

62-44 Arizona with just over 9 to play. Was 45-25 at half. Ooofta.
