I missed last night's show. Any insights?

I didn't listen but I know Wojo was on the road recruiting so Duane and Derrick filled in. If anyone listened I'd love to hear a recap, thanks.

Wojo took the high road regarding transfers.    Wished them well.   Discussed the epidemic of transfers in college basketball.   When he played, he felt he was responsible for how much playing time he earned.   Spoke glowingly of Luke, but tempered that with the fact that Luke hasn't played for a year.   Luke can play either zone or man.    Team is going to continue to play both defenses.   Then the Wilson's took over.

Yep! You want it bad enough you will adjust, learn and work harder.

It's almost as if he is telling his players to work hard all the time. As if every day were a battle. Perhaps he's suggesting they, I dunno...win every day?
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Duane says calls the Derrick 'the Vet'.   Calls Derrick the leader, gets the team going, reminds them to play hard every day.   Coaching staff is always in Derrick's ear encouraging him to lead.  Derrick learned to lead from DJO, Jae, Chris, Junior.   Taught him to show up every day and try to get better every day.

Duane's favorite nicknames for himself are 'scrappy', and 'swaggy'.

Duane's comments should get some of the morons all riled up. Duane must be another one who is clueless, in addition to two coaching staffs.

Derrick says he isn't surprised that Duane went for 30 because he sees how hard Duane works every day in practice.

Duane: Wojo's favorite words are 'Compete' and 'fight'.     Wojo loves defense, has convinced Duane that defense leads to offense.
Derrick:   Going after every rebound.    Nobody does a Wojo impression yet.  Giggling over the floor slap in Orlando vs Tennessee.

Luke's presence isn't going to change the guard play.  Will help with rebounding, having a big presence both on offense and defense, helpful in getting paint touches.

Coach was fired up before the Tennessee game, got a little excited, he kept on going even after he put the hole in the whiteboard.   Didn't stop his pre-game pumping up.    It fired up the team even more.   Duane thinks he may have done it on purpose.

Zone defense:   It cut down on transition points.    Kind of random.   Coaches put it in, didn't spend a lot of time on it, went to it against GTECH and it worked.    Slows down the other team.   Makes other team work harder for their shot.  Wojo emphasized boxing out in the zone.    We're not big, we're not athletic.   Gotta put a body on other team.  Boxing out is the smartest thing to do.   Can help draw fouls against undisciplined teams.
Looking forward to unlimited work over Christmas break.

My take:   The Wilson's really respect each other.   Duane looks up to Derrick and Derrick is doing his best to be the best leader he can be.   Derrick really admires Duane's work ethic and how he tries to get better every day.    They recognize the team's physical limitations but are both all in for Wojo.

Loved when Duane said he was looking forward to the break, so they can focus entirely on getting better.

Wojo loves the kid, and it's easy to see why.

Derrick and Duane did a fine job.  Tower captured it all.  Count on those two being on the floor 30+ every game.

I think I gained some modest insight into Wojo.  He knows that he's where he's at because Coach K told him he needed to get better or, said another way, win every day and that the responsibility for doing that rested squarely on his own shoulders.  He'll reward guys (and recruit guys) who are committed the same way.  Wojo believes it to be a privilege to wear the Marquette uniform.

He's a coaches kid. He really "gets it" and Wojo knows. I really am excited to see him unleashed more and more.

Well then, how do you ever accept it as the truth??

Did I say that?

I really don't care if praises Derrick or not

But to say it "proves" anything is mental. Show me one college athlete that has went public about a teammate and said anything negative regarding their play.

True, but athletes generally don't go out of their way to praise a team if they don't believe it.

I get what your saying. It doesn't prove anything. Same way that Wojo calling Derrick "terrific" or Davante calling Dawson "the best PG on the team" really proves anything. The way you said it however made it sound like you thought Duane didn't mean it when he said those things. I think Duane meant every word said.

I'll take your point there are not many but here is one.
