Now if they retrofitted a smaller version of this on the Warthog we just may have a super weapon.

Warfighting will be hugely different within years. Directed energy is cheap and brutally effective. My only question is reliability in multiple operating environments.

forgetful

Directed energy weapons are severely limited, due to the requirement of the target being in a straight line of site from the weapon.  They are adequate replacements for gunfire, but missiles that can track the target will always be superior.

Trading my 30.06 in for one of those for deer season.  Hope I can mount my old scope to save a few bucks.

You should have gotten one of these before your new smoker. Laser weapons give you a kill and jerked meat all in one squeeze.

Mrs. Chilli might be asking Santa to bring me a new smoker.  Do you think Sanra can get hos hands on my new rifle?

All you need for the best in smoked meat are three words: Big Green Egg

In terms of personal firepower your best option is an M4 with Elcan SpecterDR and KAC RAS. Those deer will know you mean business with one of these in your hands.

Keefe - not sure if you're familiar with xkcd or his What If? series, but he uses physics to answer weird questions, e.g. "Can you make a jet pack by firing a gun at the ground."

To answer that he analyzed the cannon we strap to a Warthog and said that it creates about 5 tons of recoil thrust and each of the engines on the jet creates 4 tons of thrust.

When you unleash the purifying fire down on the bad guys do you have to adjust your throttle/maneuvering to compensate for the recoil from the weapon?

The GAU is actually mounted off center line to port and then below CG by 2 degrees to compensate for firing torque but it maintains aim point integrity by having the 9 o'clock barrel as the operating chamber. The GAU has significant recoil but because of ballistic geometry and recoil adapters airspeed bleed is limited to less than 40 kts. You can feel the bleed in your shoulder harness but the burst algorithms smooth out the ride.
