One possible silver lining to all of these dark clouds is that Wojo is going to have to develop some coaching chops.    I have always been a little apprehensive about Wojo, as I had no idea how he would do in the big chair.   We are into total immersion now.   He and his staff sink or swim.   There are so many hard lessons to be learned here,  so many teachable moments for players and staff.   If there are more injuries, all bets are off.   But assuming health, Wojo and his staff are going to figure a lot of things out this year.   Hopefully, they are going to be able to process it all and build from it.  Fingers crossed.

Please, he was being thrown into the fire regardless this year in terms of coaching.  He showed his chops in Orlando.  We had no business winning a game down there.  And we had no business being one possession behind against Bucky with under 10 to play.  THe guy can coach and it should be obvious.

He has met every challenge so far.   I agree.    This is another new one.   I hope he meets it as well as he as met the others.

I have complete confidence he will.  Today's roster changes are addition by subtraction.

Exactly - if he recruits players that will better fit his system.

What system?  Duke??

We'll have a Duke system without Duke talent or Duke results.  Whoopie!  Seriously, if that's Wojo's goal then our fanbase will be disappointed with his results.

If recruiting great shooters who are athletically superior and tall for their position was easy EVERY school would look like Duke.

You guys are kidding yourselves.

Because I don't agree that this is addition by way of subtraction?  Hardly.

Get off the ledge.  Whens the last time a top 10 recruit came to MU???  Roster turnover is inevitable with a new coach.  Jesus francis, the team was going to implode with Buzz lightyear in a similar fashion if he stayed.  Give Wojo the time he deserves with this team.  I for one am proud of the way they have fought this year.  For the rest of the year that is all you can ask and I hope that players like JJ and Fish grow from the extended time they will get.

Weird, you're actually right about something.  We don't have Duke talent coming in, we have better talent coming in next year, the first class under Wojo.

What are your expectations for the "Wojo Era" at Marquette?

WarriorFan

We already have 2 wins due to "coaching".  That's more than the last 2 coaches combined.  I'll take it.

I think you totally miss the mark here. I don't think Wojo needs 5-star kids at every position to succeed. I also don't expect to go to the Final Four every other year like they do in Durham. But I think it's clear what he wants from his players.

He wants guys that have received good coaching and are receptive to coaching. Honestly, I think Deonte's greatest difficulty is that he desperately, desperately needs to learn how to be taught. He can't just dominate with physical ability, but he seems to think he can coast on talent alone. That isn't getting it done on defense and frankly isn't getting it done on offense either.

He wants guys that know how to play man defense, that know to keep their hands up, that don't overpursue passes or take themselves out of position gambling on an unlikely steal. He wants guys that box out and are willing to rebound as a team. On offense, he wants guys that know the value of a possession, that fight for offensive boards, that take the right shot at the right time. That doesn't take a 5-star athlete, it takes a smart basketball player. Buzz left some fantastic athletes, but some guys who were not necessarily good basketball players. Wojo wants more of the latter and less of the former.

This will be a process. The guys that are here need to learn a whole new system, and the guys coming in need to adapt quickly to it. The only way this is going to be fun is if you enjoy the process, which means the good (wins, big name recruits) with the bad (losses, transfers out).
