Well if we can accept the reality of the scenario we are facing with Burton and Dawson gone, let's talk minutes

Independent of position here's how I see the minutes break down on average with our 8 scholarship players

Du Wilson - 30
Carlino     - 30
Cohen     -  20
De Wilson - 25
Fischer     - 20
Anderson  - 30
Johnson   - 20
Teve       - 25

Thoughts?

My thoughts are this team better stay healthy, or we could legitimately see some 4 on 5 basketball.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Thoughts?

I would think Cohen gets less and Juan and Carlino get more. Partially based on Cohen's not looking quite as comfortable in the zone and partially based on my priors about what playing time distributions look like. I don't think there are many teams with playing time distributed so evenly.

Lennys Tap

The only good thing about having 8 warm bodies is that nobody will be able to bitch about minutes. Plenty available.

My hope:

Duane: 32
Carlino: 32
Anderson: 30
Fischer: 26
Taylor: 24
Cohen: 24
Jajuan: 20
Derrick: 12

No, I won't go there.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

I see the top minute guys as:
Carlino 33
Juan 32
Derrick 29
Duane 29

Here's the distribution on the rest:

Luke 24
Steve 24
Sandy 14
JJJ 14
Chitown 1

Seriously guys.  We absolutely need a couple of walk-ons in uniform.  We're an injury or two away from truly not being able to effectively compete.  Okay, who on this board is truly old enough to remember 'scrambled eggs'?  Forget about it 03eng.  You just read your history book.  Young whippersnapper.

Okay, here's a test 03!  Explain the concept (utilized and perfected by Al).  No help from any of you old guys.  Let's see what this 'kid' knows!

Ironically enough I share the same first name as someone on the team.

That doesn't mean I'm putting you in more than the one minute I have allotted.   ;D

I just have to reapportion Deonte's minutes, probably to Cohen.
Steve/Juan/Luke, evenly split 80 minutes at the 4/5
Duane, Derrick, Carlino 32 each
JJJ 14, Cohen 10.

Derrick is going to play 30 mpg the rest of the year.    Wrap your head around it, accept it, recognize that there is no other option and move on.

There is zero chance that Derrick only averages 12 minutes the rest of the season.  You might as well wish for DWade to suit up again and play 40 mins a night.

I agree, and it's truly a tragedy that neither will come to fruition.

Tragedy?

Indeed, a tragedy for my eyeballs. The last time an MU offense looked this inept while producing so little, Marcus Jackson was bringing the ball up after Diener went down. Think about that. A mediocre PF/C leading the charge produced the same offensive results.

Derrick is akin to a ball control QB whose only discernible offensive skills are handing the ball off and kneeling to end the half. Sure he doesn't turn it over ever, but he also doesn't create anything positive to generate points either. And the lack of dynamism makes the whole team eminently easier to guard. Just stack the line because the QB is not a threat. Unless you have a historically good defense, you aren't going to win anything of relevance with that. Marquette's FG% and rebounding defense is currently the opposite of historically good, it's near historically bad. So we have a terrible defense with a ball control QB. Not at all a recipe for success. In fact, the only thing our defense does well is generate turnovers, and Derrick has the lowest Steals % on the team. So what's the point of playing him max minutes. I can guarantee if that is the case we will miss the post season completely yet again, while robbing a young player like Cohen or Jajuan (who are ostensibly the future of the program) of valuable court time. What's. The. Point. Deja vu all over again.

Come on Wade's knees couldn't handle that we'd be better off hoping for Matthews or Butler to suit up.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!
