They may hurt more, but those are losses against good teams.

Much depends on one's definition of "worst."

I go with the personal vibe: Which losses made me feel worse?

Last season's losses to UWGB and Butler, among others, bothered me far more because at the point of those games, I still had fairly high expectations. Various losses to Notre Dame and Wisconsin were far worse to me. That loss to DePaul a few years ago -- awful.

Every NCAA tournament loss is far, far, FAR worse in my eyes than what happened Saturday: a regular-season loss by a Marquette team I never thought had a prayer of making the tourney.

Frankly, it barely even registers on my worst-loss-o-meter.

Thats why I asked.  I am old, but I can't recall ever losing at home to a team like this.

On November 19, 2005, Marquette lost to Winthrop at home, and finished 4th in the Big East.
On December 6, 2006, Marquette lost to North Dakota State at home, and went to the Tournament.
On November 29, 2008, Marquette got run out of the gym by Dayton, and if Lazar Hayward trims his toenails, they go to the Sweet 16, and maybe further.
On November 21, 2011, Marquette beat Norfolk State on a neutral floor by two, and went to the Sweet 16.
On December 19, 2012, Marquette lost to UW-Green Bay, and three months later, were Big East Champions and en route to the Elite 8.

It's early in the season and it's college basketball. I'm not saying we're going to run to greatness from here on out, but these things do happen from time to time with more regularity than you'd think.

This is some good perspective. Didn't MU play Norfolk twice in 2011 within a week or so? The first time was at home and didn't MU double them up?

Marquette beat Norfolk St. twice that year - the 2nd time only by 2 pts on a neutral court.  Norfolk State made it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney that year led by their NBA draft pick Kyle O'Quinn

South Alabama in the home opener.
