Transfer You Were Most Sad To See Leave

In the last, let's say 15-20 years, who was the player that transferred out of Marquette that you were the saddest to see go?

Galway Eagle

Wade when he transferred to the NBA.  But no seriously Id say mbakwe or maymonn.  I feel like they would've been great had they stayed here.
Maigh Eo for Sam

Lennys Tap

MerrittsMustache

Trevor Mbakwe.

He had his share of injuries and off-court issues but check out the MU rosters for Buzz's first 3 seasons at MU. Now, imagine those teams with a legit 14 and 10 guy in the post.

GGGG

Are you including signees that didn't show up?  Tyshawn Taylor.

Pure transfer?  Trevor Mbakwe...but Jameel McKay may overtake him.

Would ODB made a difference on the Final Four team?  What role would he have played that wasn't picked up otherwise?

And he may have limited Novak's minutes off the bench, which ended up being key in their tourney run.

My pick? Jamail Jones. Didn't come from a good situation, and I was hopeful things would work out for him here. Glad to see he's found a niche at FGCU.

I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.

Jeronne Maymon, because we missed 3.5 years of drama with Tim!

Perhaps many are interpreting the question as most sad to see leave at the time he left.

DJ NEWBILL When his scholarship got transferred to the shredder in Berts office.....

That kid has averaged 17.9 ppg for all 3 years in college and is still "The Goods."

We could sure use him this year as a Senior.

ODB for me.  At least at the time.  As it turned out, maybe it worked out for us.  However, at the time we were looking at a great team, and still were, but with a big hole at PF.

Maybe if ODB stayed, the team isn't a final four team.  Things are strange that way, what seems great may not be and vice versa, until it plays out.

I do know that having ODB would not have mattered in the Kansas final four game.  He wasn't going to stopping that truck that hit us  :-[

So, I guess it worked out for MU in the end, but at the time of transfer it looked like it took a team with great potential down a notch.

He wouldn't be here this year, he had to sit out when he transferred from So. Miss to Penn State.

I agree with this. It was shameful what happened.

Marquette_g

I'm not convinced ODB was anymore than a guy.  I'd say Mbwake if Taylor doesn't count.

That is kind of where I stand.  At the time it seemed like a big deal..but I don't think it ended up mattering at the end.

The reason I say Mbakwe, is that I think he could have been a great 6th man in Buzz's first year.  Would have added height in the midget year.  And then could have been a senior when we got blown out in the S16 v. North Carolina.

(Although that ended up being the role that JFB played those years so who knows.)

Hindsight is 20/20, but I would prefer DJ Newbill, especially if it means not compromising your professed values as a coach.

I would say Mbakwe. A dominant big was something we sorely missed for years. Loved Otule but would have been nice to have a two dimensional center.

I don't think Buzz felt that he compromised anything.
