Not singling out Nevada but I honestly don't believe anyone on this board has as much "first-hand insight" as they may claim. It's a message board. I take all insider info with a grain of salt.

Nevada knows more inside scoop within the team than all the rest of us combined.

ODB would've taken Townsend's minutes.

Townsend would be my #1 name for "Transfers Out of MU You Hoped to See But Were Sad When They Didn't Leave"

Daemon Mason I think his name was...? A long 6'6 raw and talented kid out of Chicago. I forget what school he went to, I guess I could go look. Maybe it was Simeon?

Not sure where that young man is and what he is doing....wasn't cut out for school but I thought he could have been a good one. Not sure if he was kicked off team or if he was did he transfer?

I think he is from Chicago and Jamail Jones. Jamail was a great guy and a good teammate and he left when he would have been needed that next year.

He left too early. They need anyone who could hit a jump shot that next year and he could at least do that and had some size and worked hard.

Those two jump out at me and then yes, of course Trevor Mbakwe who went to Minnesota.

He was a beast and was Jae Crowder before Jae Crowder got here...

I believe Mason went to a suburban school...down near Richards, but not Richards.

He hit the game winner vs. Louisville.

He was very highly rated, but it was apparent fairly early that he wasn't going to be an impact guy. He was a fairly poor shooter and had a very loose handle. In fact, I suspected he had been promised a certain number of minutes because IMO he really didn't deserve the PT given to him. He went to LSU, I believe, and didn't pan out.

Mason went to high school in Aurora, a western suburb of Chicago.

Dameon Mason, though it would have been interesting to see how he would have fit with Dom, Wes, and Jerel.

Would ODB made a difference on the Final Four team?  What role would he have played that wasn't picked up otherwise?

Really hard to say, but I think it's certainly possible.  Todd Townsend was slightly less than a poor man's version of ODB.  With Blankson starting over TT, we would have had about equal D and rebounding at the position but significantly more potential for offensive production.  At a minimum, I would say we don't get blown out by Kansas.

What is with all of the Odartey Blankson props?  Not sure how someone who was never drafted into the NBA would have made much of a difference in the loss to Kansas.  Blame that one on Crean.  His history of coaching in big games isn't that great.  More often than not, his teams aren't prepared.  I still find it amusing that 2 sweet 16 appearances is as far as he's gotten @ Indiana.  Sometimes, you have a great thing and shouldn't leave it behind.  Well...... I'm glad you did leave Tom.  Wojo gets better recruiting classes than you at a non blue chip program.

1. ODB - without question. Todd Townsend just didnt have it. It was devastating heading into that year.
2. Shannon Smith - He was an NBA talent (would have made it if he stayed at MU), and while he played sloppy at MU, he was too young at the time and blossomed at UWM. He stuffed a Jordan shot when he was in HS.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3ABqr6BjR4
3. Mbawke
4. Dameon Mason
5. Corey Floyd - We really needed him given his HS ranking, and talent, at the lowest point in MU bball history.       http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1499&dat=19871125&id=p-AjAAAAIBAJ&sjid=vioEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2314,645885

Wasn't it found out later Mason had a heart condition?

Henry Sugar

#1 - ODB. He would have taken Townsend's minutes
#2 - Mbakwe. As a healthy junior and senior, he was nationally ranked at eFG%, OR%, DR%, and block%.

Of course, both those guys would have been so much drama. Not convinced I really would have wanted either of them to stay.

Eh...I'm not sure Shannon Smith had NBA talent.  In fact I have never once regretted that he transferred.
