In case you have missed it, Dan Hanner and Luke Winn have done some awesome stuff recently previewing the season.  Hanner is rolling out his rankings of all 351 teams. Marquette comes in at #67, 6th in the Big East.  If you haven't been following him, he is a big believer in recruiting rankings.  If you notice, only NC State has more Top 100 recruits than MU in the 51-75 range.

Cool.

With all of that statistical analysis, we don't even have to play the season.

What a relief!

Ouch.  Marquette: doing less with more?

Want to know who's overrated?  See who Marquette's recruiting.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

What a relief!

No one is saying stats should replace actual game play. Literally no one.

Hanner seems to be more optimistic about MU than many others.

Interesting Prov and SJU are both very close to MU in the rankings. Very doable to make fourth based on these predictions.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

This is probably the most objective review of Marquette I've seen to date. We don't know completely what we have. At 67, we're not that far away from a "9" to "12" seed in the NCAA tournament. We're also not that far away from staying home again. If our talent gels and we box out effectively on rebounds, we'll be a tournament tam. If we don't, well, then it will be another long year.

I was kidding, Hank. Didn't think teal was necessary but obviously it was.

Yep. If another player can become a decent scoring option, they'll have a chance at being pretty good. I think they'll be far better defensively.

In particular, I think that Steve with his added bulk will be a far more effective post defender than most people realize.  I rather have bulk with less than ideal height, than height with less than ideal bulk defending the post.

Steve will be fine.   But the problem is that he will pick up fouls and cannot play 40 minutes a night.   What happens then?      Until Luke is eligible.

Yep.  The alternative is Juan or to go to a 5 man perimeter lineup.
