Nope, I stand by my comment and it has nothing to do with Bill Cords. Nothing.
You are ridiculous.

Um, OK. Maybe I should have posted another topic that covered Cords' accomplishments at MU--I certainly didn't want to hijack this thread which is why I explicitly referenced Chicos in my two-word initial reply. It was only after a wave of replies bad-mouthing my intentions that I felt necessary to post again.

Like I said, it had nothing to do with Cords.  I trust that he did very good things at MU--I just don't know what they were and would love some answers from guys and gals that have been around the program longer than I have.

And guy, let's not act like Cords is refreshing this page every 5 minutes and that he's now outraged that HIS thread has been hijacked.

Based on all accounts, Bill Cords was a huge advocate for the basketball program and his stewardship resulted in nationally recognized product on the court. But, and I ask this fully expecting educated, valid points, what exactly did he do? As an MU fan, I'm genuinely curious to know. Seems like a great guy and I hope I have an opportunity to meet him at some point.

I was just a little agitated with Chicos post given his history--I don't need to know that you worked for him unless you expound on why he was great to work for or that you know his wife's name. The well-wishing is all well and good, but don't use it as an opportunity to boost your "street cred" without anecdotes or rehashing some of his successes.

It's a message board, we are a product of our experiences in life.  I'm going to post based on my experiences, you can post whichever way you wish.   Since very few if any people here ever worked for the man but were only pontificating from an external point of view how good he has been for MU, I added an innocent statement to say he was also a good man to work for.  His wife is a lovely lady.  I wish them both well.

If you would like further information about why, then let me point you to this piece from a number of years ago that I wrote when Bill retired.  A good retrospective of Bill's career at MU if I do say so myself.  Perhaps I will update it with an addendum.

Windy....thanks for referencing gomarquette.com.  Always makes me feel a little warm and fuzzy since I created the site back in 1995 (see, there's a personal reference, but something most people probably didn't know....that may irritate you).

I think you may want to look at this bio of Bill.   http://www.gomarquette.com/school-bio/marq-athdirector.html

You may also want to look at these or just about every other one out there.  I mentioned Gwen because everyone on the staff knew her and really liked her.  I wish them both well in retirement.

The point being, let's hear some anecdotes, stories about made him great and why we're dedicating a thread to his retirement (the gomarquette reference was more tongue in cheek). I'll be more explicit next time. Though, that is an interesting tidbit regarding the genesis of gomarquette.com.

And Chicos, did you really not expect to catch some flak? I believe you re: your relationships with Cords and his wife, but it's kind of like the boy that cried wolf.

A guy pays Cords a compliment, and you read the entire tax code into it. You sir are weird.

What was read between the lines was the patented CBB name dropping.

If one wants to send Bill Cords a personal message, this isn't the time nor place to do it.

Come on, the guy worked for Cords and expressed his thoughts.  No need to bash him.  Don't think this is name dropping here.

Seriously, congratulations, Chicos-haters.   You've turned a thread thanking Bill Cords into a bunch of crap.  And don't go saying "Chicos started it."  You did.

For the love of all that is holy, you find Chicos irritating to read, so use the ignore function and stop being irritated about him, bitching about him.

Stop reading the posts that irritate you, reporting them to moderators.   Use the ignore button and get on with your lives.

In conclusion, thanks, Bill Cords.
Only thing I'll ask is that Chicos' name is modified to reflect his compulsion to humble-brag with every post.

Nope, didn't expect it. No one is crying wolf.  Some people want to find stuff that isn't there, always has been around here...not what is said but who says the what.  Plenty of people have come out and commented to you.  I'm sure now you know that spouses are included in just about every bio MU (or any school) does.

Best of luck to the Cords moving forward.  Did a lot of good for the university, good man to work for and with.

MU owes so much to Bill Cords. He has been a remarkable steward of the athletics program, and Marquette is better with him having been a part of the University.

In all seriousness, when you lay out MU's peaks and valleys over the last 30 years I think a ton of the peaks are directly attributable to Mr. Cords or during his tenure with a minimum of the down side issues.  Great leader for the program and one who has managed to leave the program even higher than when he left it the first time.
