Quote"[Coach Wojciechowski] is coming from a great staff at Duke and they have the best tools to attack the new Big East," Mayo said. "With the previous players that they have now and with me being gone, they are going to be a better team. They've raised their standards after certain players left. When I left, Marquette was on a great track. When the season approaches they will surprise a lot of people."

Interesting.

Trust me, that's not what dulled his mind.

I hope Wojo will invite him back for the Alumni training sessions each year, and I do think he'll find a niche somewhere and make some money with basketball.  Good luck to you, Todd.

You know, this article paints him in a much better light than he deserves.  Let me tell you that I seriously doubt that Wojo will be inviting him back for anything.

Can you, or anyone else who really knows, explain about Todd-Buzz-Larry-Wojo-etc?

Todd ran out of chances.  Larry wasn't going to relent.  Buzz appealed to various people and won.  Larry was pissed.  Larry made noise.  Wild fired him.  Buzz left.  Todd left.

Simple, to the point. I like it. Thanks.

You'd think that his brother OJ would have sprung for some topsiders to get him through the winters.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

"One minute late.

It's what cost him a one-game suspension against Wisconsin last December, resulting in a six-point Marquette loss."

There you go Badger fans, you only beat us during your final four year because Todd Mayo was suspended.  SBNation wouldn't say it if it wasn't so.

Something that the Sultan will never concede: "Buzz left."=Buzz was shown the door.

Something that you'll never concede 5 ncaa appearances, 2 sweet 16s, 1 elite 8, 1 Big East title = Buzz did good for the basketball program.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Buzz was not shown the door. Willie you are flat out wrong and don't know what you are talking about. Marquette didn't go out of the way to make him happy however - I think they grew weary of him.

That damn clock! Didn't anyone check to see if it was running one minute fast?! I mean he "sprinted to the gym" and all! Gave it his best effort.

The thing missing from the article was "team". Did Mayo even care that he let the team down, or was it the clock that let them down.

What an annoying article.

Buzz's OCD probably caused him to move practice up from 3:15 to 3:14 that day too.

On that note, I've read a couple times, and even Mayo seemed to be hinting that Wojo has a very relaxed/free/hands-off approach.  Seems he doesn't micro-manage or set a strict plan for everyone to follow, hand-hold them through it.  More of setting standards, putting it on the players to find how to achieve them, and serving as a guide.  I can see where that approach takes his "kind" of player, and that wouldn't be a system Mayo could thrive in.

It was not Mayo's choice to leave the team.  And I feel fairly confident in saying that Wojo will set high standards for the team and have their schedules planned out more or less to the minute, we just won't hear about it much because he won't recruit the types of guys who need to be disciplined for it because they have trouble meeting the high standards he sets.
