Travis Diener bridging Marquette past to present

You could find just about any type of person imaginable in New York City during Super Bowl weekend in the first weekend in February of this year. What with this country's biggest sporting event merging with its biggest city, there was no shortage of questionable, charismatic or downright crazy characters. But walking those busy streets was [...]<img alt="" border="0" src="http://pixel.wp.com/b.gif?host=painttouches.com&blog=28348875&post=12016&subd=painttouches&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

"He (Wojo) wants everyone to feel like Marquette is their home, no matter what coach they played for. Whether they played for coach McGuire, coach Dean, coach O'Neal or coach Williams or coach Crean. It's Marquette. It's not about who you play for, it's about this being their home."

So we just don't care about people like Doc Rivers or Tony Smith?! Tisk tisk
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

All these coaches are about bridging to the players of the past. Until they lose it on McIlvaine during the postgame show because they don't understand what words mean.

This was a great article.

The one thing that's always a miss for me is the following question: What impact does the DBO expect to make on the program.

Separately, what does TD expect to teach our current students about MU when he didn't bother to attend classes and could barely write full sentences in proper English? Is this going to be a series of "don't do what I did" lessons for the players?

Haha!  Hopefully Jim Mc knows to only ask about player character and heart by now.  ; )

Great article even if written by Bilas and love the observation about Wojo building foundation rather than worrying about moving into or building a new house each year.

I thought it was a good article, but it seemed to forget the reaching out to former players that Buzz and Crean did. Indeed, Mark Miller (I assume it is THE Mark Miller of gallbladder surgery fame), put a comment at the end of the article that Buzz "constantly reached out to former MU players and had almost every living ex-player on campus at one time or another."

I'm totally digging what Wojo is doing and am optimistic about the future, but the reality is that much of what he says and does is marketing, and articles are often written as publicity/propaganda.

Finally, I think Travis would be a helluva of a resource to the team, especially the (point) guards. It's too bad that he can't be at practices, but I assume he's around, and playing, during loads of informal sessions.
