I saw the entire MU coaching staff arriving in Chicago on train.  Questions:
1)  What were they doing in Chicago?
2)  Are we that poor that the coaches have to take the train?
By the way, Diener still looks like a 20-year old kid in that gold Marquette shirt!

It must have been a late lunch.  They arrived after 5 pm.

I'm assuming the question asking are we really that poor that we have to take the train wasn't serious.
Considering they have their own private aircraft.
I'm sure there was a real reason for the train ride.
It's not about ME,
It's about US.

Maybe because trains are easy and they drop you off in the center of the city and they may have had a coaches meeting on the train?

chapman

Pretty sure the announcers said last week that the Brewers take the train.  It's easier.

Wojo:  "I've got an idea.   We have this event in downtown Chicago.   Let's take the train.  90 minutes each way of team building, hanging out, bonding, telling lies....you know, guy stuff.  I hear they have a special 'dime-a-dozen-point-guard' section.   We'll get an exemption for Carawell, it'll be a hoot."

Flying to Chicago vs. the Train...Amtrak a much better choice by far. Avoid traffic jams, Tolls & you end up not far from your destination. A few of cabs or Limo Service makes perfect sense

The train gets you to Union which is pretty much the heart of the loop. Flying into ORD makes it a pain to get fowntown. Probably took them 40 minutes less to take the train.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Depends on when he saw them.  They played Brazil at the UC on Saturday.  But Coach K and USA basketball were at West Point yesterday.

And the train issue is silly.  It is the most convenient way to get downtown.  Even flying by private jet is a pain now that Meigs is closed.

Saw Bert on the train last summer.

Far faster to the Loop.  I always take the train from MKE if the schedule works.

Litehouse

I don't get the poor comment either.  Taking the train is more expensive, but faster, than a bunch of guys driving down there in a van.  Seems to me like they've got the money and pay for the convenience.

Flew in there a few times on 4-seaters.  Was quite a view coming in for a landing...!

Train during rush hour going into Chicago from Milwaukee, no problem, 90 minutes.

Driving during late afternoon/early evening into Chicago, a mess, a hassle, 2.5 hours plus.

The original poster has apparently not driven into Chicago during rush hour.

The only question I have for the original poster is why wouldn't you spend a few extra bucks and take the train?

If it doesn't work with your schedule.

Does it really matter whether it is "rush hour" or not?  Is there ever a good time to hit Chicago, other than maybe 3-4:30 AM?  That city SUCKS!

Excellent!  it's been months since Scoop has had a Chicago v. Milwaukee mutual rant.  and once we start that, you know a "why'd MU drop football/should MU start a football team" thread can't be far behind.

Congrats to Wojo for getting the lay of the land transportation wise.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
