Maybe I shouldn't, but I get nervous when a 6"7 kid doesn't have a single dunk in his highlight reel. But, he is a 5 star prospect so I am naturally interested. Go sic 'em Wojo

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Nevermind what I just said. The video in the link was nearly 2 years old. He was only a freshmen.

Here is a more recent link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi6luXpjdWw

Seems to have above average defensive instincts, passing, and ball handling for a player his size. Jay Bee, you live in Gopher territory, you seen him play?

I believe that video was from a year ago as I think that was Ellenson getting rebounds (I might be wrong). Hmmm, former AAU teammates?

He reminds a little bit of a modern day Chris Mullin. Has that Gym rat style of game.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

His father is Richard Coffey, who was a talented rebounder for the Gophers when I lived in Minnesota in the late-80s. He was built like a truck and nobody messed with him. I think he had a cup of coffee (pun intended) in the NBA. Richard's a really good guy. If I remember correctly, he went on to be a paratrooper or something, and I think he's now a motivational speaker. I think he also has a basketball-playing daughter.

So I'm guessing Amir is intelligent, disciplined and hard working, because that's how I remember his pop.

He's one of the top recruits from Minnesota.  Goes to Hopkins HS, which has put out good volume of D1 and NBA talent.

Noticed that also.

Have seen Amir millions of times. Search his name in latenighthoops.com for some comments

Huge fan. Dad was a stud for Minn when I was a younger guy. Two sisters playing D1

Kyle Anderson like in that he's a tall passer who can play numerous positions

Has grown up a lot over the past year. Confidence is now high and rightfully so

Great family, great kid... UNC, Minnesota tough competition likely

Passing skills are outrageous

His wingspan isn't big dude to small frame but his as are long. Standing reach good & knows how to get into passing lanes

Want to see him up his offensive aggressiveness & usage over the coming months

Amir and Henry both were with D1 Minnesota fka pump n run

Two years ago played together on 15's
A year ago Henry was w 16's, Amir 15's
This year both played 17U EYBL (pulley & WI PGE, respectively)

He reminds me a lot of a young Rodney Hood!

It would be nice to get a side of Bacon with our Coffey.

And his Grandfather was John Coffee. Built like a tank. Very talented big who could suck the life right out of you. Sadly he was executed for crimes he didn't committ in the 20's.

Different guy.  The guy you're thinking of had a name like the drink, only not spelled the same.

I doubt we land him but it's good to see he mentioned us right off the back as still being interested. He's a real nice player and a guy of his size and well rounded game is exactly what we are looking for.

Maybe something crazy will happen.
