This was in this morning's news.  The state is in process of a major rebuilding the I-91 & I-95 intersection, one of the country's busiest so it's a high profile position.  As I happen to drive through this intersection every day,  I can attest that he's managing the massive project well.  Hopefully this doesn't affect the construction.

DOT engineer charged with criminal impersonation

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– An engineer from the Department of Transportation was arrested Thursday on criminal impersonation charges.

State police say they received a complaint requesting an investigation into an email sent to the Republican American Newspaper.  The author of the email claimed to be a state official. Police say the email was never sent or authorized to be sent by the complainant.

After a criminal investigation and a search and seizure warrant executed at his home, 52-year-old Brian Mercure, of Torrington, was arrested at his workplace in New Haven. Mercure was charged with Criminal Impersonation and released on $2,500 bond. He will be arraigned in court August 7th.

The DOT says Mercure is the Assistant District Engineer in the New Haven District. He is the manager of the I-95 Corridor Q Bridge project in which he's previously spoke with News 8 about. He has been worked for the DOT since 1985.

After his arrest, the DOT says he was placed on paid administrative leave.

Well, he's a state employee of the DOT so he must have been impersonating someone working

What do suspended DOT employees do? Actually work for a change?

The DMV offices in Washington actually post signs informing you that it is a crime to yell, scream at, or threaten their employees. Rather than correct the underlying issues they threaten their customers. An excellent example of why both monopolies and government-management of services is brutally inefficient. The worst, however, are government monopolies.

Could have been worse!  That ill-written piece, at least, was not written by a Marquette Journalism grad.
