Can't really provide any information relative to living in Louisville, though I visit for work 4-5 times a year and always very much enjoy my visit.  Easy city to get around, lots of cool neighborhoods and the food and drink is exceptional for a city of that size.

Whenver eating at an Italian restaurant in Louisville, always make sure the tablecloths have been thoroughly washed.

Best gut bomb in SATX is Brenda's Burgers. Most outstanding Tex Mex is Brianna's. Both are outside Lackland AFB.

Probably an eastern suburb, so you can get to Lexington in 45 minutes for the UK games

chattanooga's really nice.  right on the border of tenessee-georgia, 2 hours from atlanta and 2 hours from nashville.  the weather is great except for the occasional tornadic activity, a double A minor league baseball team in a new stadium on the river...downtown is like the east side of milwaukee, no state income tax and no shortages of places of worship

That's great, but a little bit of a drive to Louisville.

You need to strap on a Hot Brown while in Kentucky.

Be careful of the country ham.  If it's authentic, its salty as hell.

My buds all lived on the north side of town. The Flying Saucer is on Huebner right off 1604. They must have a thousand beers on offer. We usually sat outdoors since we were looking to burn a gar. Definitely worth a look.

I went to my First Sgts graduation at Maxwell AFB and brought back an Alabama country ham. My wife made a dinner out of it but it was so salty as to be inedible. It had the texture of shoe leather. We went out for salmon, instead.

There is also one in Nashville, so I am guessing a chain of some sort.  Not sure of any other locales.  The site in Nashville is an old train station.

Small world. Deep Rutt is a Horner driver who, like me, is a JTAC (we're the guys who drop behind the enemy lines and call in the air strikes.) I worked with Deep twice - when he ran the USMC cell at the CENTCOM AOC in Qatar then was DO for USMC Air for MNC-I. Solid, extremely squared away officer.  

One of his proteges, call sign Xena, was on my team when I was the CAS Chief. Xena was both a superb aviator and outstanding Marine and he should have been since he was trained by Deep. I have never, ever been disappointed in the professionalism of Marine officers. They built them tough at Quantico.

By the way, is he back to flying for UAL? He was like me - a Reserve puke who went back on AD. I think Deep was good enough to wear stars if he didn't have the Reserve stink on him. Just a solid guy.

I never knew public schools were doing something like this. There has always been a USMC-oriented military boarding prep school in Harlingen, TX but that was a one-off. I looked through Marine M&S Academy's faculty list and they have half a dozen Master Gunnys on staff...heaven help the student who gets out of line. I notice, too, that the students are all wearing USMC Charlies so clearly the whole mission is built around USMC values, discipline, and principles. I would be curious to know how the alumni fare once they are graduated.

Rutt seemed like a stand-up guy so I'm not surprised he opted to continuing serving rather than going back to his airline gig. He is a very straight shooter who is probably a great guy to grab a beer with. I know he enjoys a good gar because a group of us burned some Cubans outside the AOC in Qatar.

Over the weekend when reading an article on the Kentucky Senate race, I saw this quote attributed to Mark Twain on the city of Louisville.

My cousin got married in the St. Matthews area, east of downtown.  It was a nice area.  If you are looking for cheaper places, look across the river into Indiana.  And no I did not marry my cousin.
