It seems to me that you don't like it, can't really figure out why, and are just sticking to your POV for the sake of sticking to your POV.

Chicos would never do that.

In a general sense, I agree it falls into the creepy aspect of life. However, there's a large difference between asking a Freshman girl questions on twitter and asking a basketball player who is having an interactive Q&A session with his friends/fans/followers.

With Du, he handles every question so well. I'm really hoping the redshirt didn't throw off his confidence because if his play on the court at all mirrors the way he's handled himself off the court then MU has a real diamond in the program.

Didn't you read it?  It said he wasn't recruiting Diamond

Nothing as creepy as the tweet TC sent that high school boy:

"I've been thinking about you a lot since last weekend. A whole lot..."
Spot on Lenny. Crean thinking about HS boys a lot---CREEPY

I just don't find it all that strange.  I don't follow any players.  I wouldn't participate in a Q&A.  But your case against it seems all over the map.

First, you were against it because it's "creepy" and equate it to any random 18 year old being asked questions on twitter by any random 40 year old.  (Which IMO isn't necessarily creepy.)

Second, you were against it because it did it outside of Marquette's knowledge.

Third, you were against it because of "jock sniffing."  (Which is kind of the opposite of your first point.)

It seems to me that you don't like it, can't really figure out why, and are just sticking to your POV for the sake of sticking to your POV.

I think I listed the reasons why

1) Creepy, and yes digital jock sniffing
2) What benefit does it serve
3) Sanctioned by MU? What's the downside?

I get why people do it.  I'm trying to understand what people get out of it, especially guys that are 3 or 4 times older.  To each their own.  Hopefully MU is ok with it and doesn't backfire on these kids.  When you only have a limited number of characters on Twitter, clarity isn't always what comes out and is ripe for misintepretation.

And where are we drawing the line? At 18? It's fair to guess the Bucks first pick in this year's draft could be a 19 year old, one and done player. Would it be creepy to follow this person as a Bucks fan? I'd say no.

I get your point, there's a slippery slope in following a college hoops player and how much interaction a "follower" may or may not have with that player. Reading a person's tweets is one thing since that's information that person chooses to share with the public. Replying back and trying to repeatedly contact that person is something altogether different.
LOL.

You may be spinning your wheels a bit, but I don't disagree with you. In my mind, the analysis doesn't get beyond "creepy." It need not be justified or explained. In the words of the esteemed Justice Potter Stewart, "I know it when I see it." In this situation, I see creepy. Whether that is Tom Crean or Joe Schmoe, tweeting kids 20 years your junior is just not my cup of tea.

Firstly, Wilson only need respond to the questions he wants to answer. If a Scoop nerd asks, "Why did Buzz force you to redshirt?" he likely ignores it so all control is in his corner which makes it decidedly less creepy for me.

Secondly, there can be some benefit. Earth shattering, probably not. But Wilson was asked whether he prefers to play the 1 or on the wing. Was asked his thoughts on Wojo's early days. Was asked how often they do strength training. Was asked who wins when he plays Dawson 1v1. Was asked whether his game more resembles Lillard or Irving. Was jokingly asked which teammate annoys him.

Considering the lack of a media presence surrounding our program I find it okay that Wilson engages in these Q&As. Also, I think he's done maybe three or four in the last year so it's not an every week deal. In 2014, a twitter Q&A can be humanizing. You see it across all fields of life from actresses to news media to sports media to professional athletes. My guess is since Wilson has had a few of these, the MU people who ball hawk social media have not only witnessed it but seemingly approved of it.

I haven't looked at the tweets, but what makes you think it's only old guys tweeting at him and not his fellow college students/peers? If I were to guess I'd bet most of the people asking him questions are young people that are either in high school, college, or just out of college. Again this is a guess because I haven't bothered to look at these tweets.

Also I feel like MU fans are pretty tame on twitter compared to the Kentucky, UNC, IU, and KU's of the world.

No question, MU fans very tame compared to other schools, not even close.

Sorry if I implied only 40+ year olds are, that certainly isn't the case nor my intent.  It's an interesting world today.  It used to be the athletic department and the coach tried to control the flow of information. I still believe that is appropriate, limits a lot of potential dust ups.  Some pro teams and many college teams have that rule in place.  Usually imposed because someone said something they definitely shouldn't have said as the filter for an 18-22 year old might not be quite developed yet.

Let's go back to the day when someone like yourself from the athletic department could control the flow of information. That way we'll be sure to avoid the kind of shoot from the hip, knee jerk reactions that might come from the mouths of 18-22 year olds. I literally laughed out loud when I wrote this.

Haha seriously, a guy with ~20k posts on this message board alone (probably north of 50k when you include all MU boards and various screen names) lecturing people about how "creepy" it is to join in on a public Q&A session with a current student athlete at that SA's own behest. This is also a guy that has been known to cyberstalk other posters via IP addresses and other means. What a hilarious sanctimonious pile of bullsh*t! Really is just too funny.

Why do you think, in your opinion, that some coaches ban twitter use?

50k?  No

Talking tomother graduates of our school about MU is on par with talking to a 18 year old kid onTwitter?

We just disagree

If Chicos tells you not to do it.  Who the hell are you to question him!!??  Or are you the kind of guy who wants to have him blather on for another 10 posts telling you why hes right?
